Alan Moore has been appointed the chairman of the Stowmarket Stroke Support Group, replacing Anne Helliwell, who had been in the position for six years.

Mr Moore has been a member of the group, a Stroke Association voluntary group, since 2006 after he had a stroke, leaving him unable to walk or talk.

He suffered a brain haemorrhage, in 2005, and after three months in West Suffolk Hospital, and eight months in an out-patient rehab treatment in Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarkets Icanho Clinic, Alan was referred to the support group.

After joining in 2006, he received intense rehabilitation and support from the group which helped him recover.

He added: After my stroke I had to relearn how to live.

I could not walk, speak or understand other peoples speech, and couldnt read or write. My life changed drastically.
