Sessions/Tracks 1. Cardiology - Future Medicine Cardiology is a branch of medicine which deals with disorders of the heart as well as parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment ofcongenital heartdefects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart diseaseand electrophysiology. It is likely that there will be continuing sub specialization in the pursuit of technical virtuosity and clinical excellence in the field of cardiology. This situation will at first both aggravate the escalation of costs and intensify the workforce shortage. What is Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral palsy is a developmental disorder and leading cause of disability in young children. It affects approximately 500,000 children and adults, with around 8,000 babies and between 1,200 and 1,500 preschool-age children diagnosed each year. Cerebral palsy occurs as a result of a brain injury sustained during fetal development or birth. However, because the symptoms of CP affect a childs coordination and independent movement, the injury is not always diagnosed right away, especially when the symptoms are mild. Below you will find an interactive table of contents which will help you navigate our guide. Simply click on the section you are interested in and well take you right to that section. You can also click back to top next to the topics to be brought right back to this section. Parents usually notice that something is wrong when a child fails to reach developmental milestones such as This may lead to a diagnosis later in life, accounting for the children who are diagnosed as toddlers. Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to the motor cortex of the brain. This is the part of the brain that affects muscle control and coordination. For this reason, children with … Continue reading

Vitamin D and hypertension
Posted: Published on September 8th, 2018
Summary Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. High blood pressure causes your arteries to stretch beyond normal. There are risk factors that can increase your chances of developing hypertension. Some of these risk factors are based on your lifestyle and can be controlled, like your diet. Other risk factors cant be controlled, such as age or gender. Research shows that there is a link between vitamin D and hypertension. People with higher vitamin D levels tend to have lower blood pressure and are less likely to develop hypertension. Some studies show that taking a vitamin D supplement may help people lower their blood pressure. However, the research has been inconsistent, meaning that we cant say for sure whether or not taking vitamin D supplements would reduce your chances of developing hypertension or reduce your blood pressure. If you have hypertension or you are trying to prevent hypertension and want to take vitamin D, it is unlikely to make your hypertension worse or cause you any harm, as long as you take less than 10,000 IU per day. However, we also cant say for sure if … Continue reading

Hypothalamus | Definition of Hypothalamus by Merriam-Webster

The hypothalamus helps regulate a number of important behavioral and physiological functions such as body temperature, eating and drinking habits, emotional well-being and sleep, according to the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Normally, your brains hypothalamus releases GnRH, which stimulates your pituitary gland to let loose some FSH and LH. Many can interfere with the activity of the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that helps regulate temperature and thirst. This produces a stress response in your bodyspecifically, your brains hypothalamus triggers your sympathetic nervous system to release norepinephrine (aka adrenaline) and cortisol (a stress hormone) to get you out of harms way. Studies in both animals and humans showed that CGRP and its receptors are found in brain structures such as the hypothalamus and cerebellum, which were long thought to play a role in generating migraine attacks. Daily circadian rhythm is controlled by a collection of neurons in an area of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus may continue to secrete hormones, for example. Essentially, the brains hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which causes the pituitary gland to produce FSH and LH. The hypothalamus is a small area at the base of the brain, weighing about 4 gm out of the 1400 gm brain weight of an adult human, yet it performs a wide range of functions that are vital for the survival of the individual. In general, the hypothalamus acts as a integrator to regulate and coordinate basic functions necessary for life, such as fluid and electrolyte balance; feeding and energy metabolism; wake-sleep cycles; thermoregulation; stress responses; and sexual behavior and reproduction. Located just behind and between the eyes, the anterior border of the hypothalamus is formed by the optic chiasm. It is bordered laterally by the optic tracts and temporal lobes, and the posterior limit of the hypothalamus, occupied by the mammillary bodies, is bounded by the cerebral peduncles. The hypothalamus, literally located below the thalamus, is divided in the midline by the third ventricle. It contains a series of reasonably well differentiated cell groups or nuclei, sandwiched between to major axonal pathways that connect it with the rest of the brain and with the endocrine system. The periventricular axon system occupies the medial wall of the hypothalamus along the third ventricle, medial to most of the hypothalamic nuclei. It … Continue reading

Articles OnEczema Eczema Eczema - Do I Have Eczema, and How Do I Treat It? It can be hard to tell for sure if you have eczema. Youll want to see a dermatologist or other doctor to find out. At your appointment, your doctor will check your skin and talk with you about your symptoms, your health history in general, and any rashes or allergies that run in your family. Based on that information, she'll decide if its eczema or something else. Good skin care is key. If your eczema is mild, that might be all you need, along with some changes in your daily habits. If you have severe eczema, you may need to take medicine for it, too. The basics: Soap and moisturizer. Use a mild soap or soap substitute that won't dry your skin. Youll also want a good moisturizer in cream, lotion, or ointment form. Smooth it on right after a shower or bath, as well as one other time each day. If your eczema is severe, you may find that it helps to take baths with a small amount of bleach added to the water. That kills bacteria that live on the skin of people … Continue reading

An important part of good mental health is the ability to look at problems or concerns realistically. Everyone has days when they feel sad, stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed by lifes challenges. If you continue to struggle for several weeks or longer or your symptoms begin interfering with your daily lifeat home, work, school, or in your relationshipsseek help. Talk to someone you trust, such as a family member, friend, bishop, or mental health professional. Addressing mental health concerns early can prevent a crisis in the future. Struggling with your mental health does not indicate a weakness in your character or spirit. Elder Neil L. Andersen reminded us that while ones earthly situation may not be ideal, [ones] spiritual DNA is perfect because ones true identity is as a son or daughter of God (Whoso Receiveth Them, Receiveth Me,EnsignorLiahona, May 2016, 50).
