Session and Tracks 1. Cardiology - Future Medicine Cardiology is abranch of medicinewhich deals with disorders of the heart as well as parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment ofcongenital heartdefects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart diseaseand electrophysiology. It is likely that there will be continuing sub-specialization in the pursuit of technical virtuosity and clinical excellence in the field of cardiology. This situation will at first both aggravate the escalation of costs and intensify the workforce shortage. Sub Tracks: Related Conferences: American Society of Echocardiography31st Annual State-of-the-art Echocardiography February 17-20, 2018 San Diego, USA; 5thInternational Conference on Prehypertension,Hypertension and Cardio Metabolic SyndromeFebruary 22-25, 2018 Venice, Italy; National Lipid AssociationClinical LipidUpdate Spring February 23-25, 2018 San Antonio. Related Societies: Indonesian Heart Association, Hong KongCollege of Cardiology, Hong KongSociety of Paediatric Cardiology, Mongolian Society for Pediatric Cardiology,National Heart Association of Malaysia, Philippine Heart Association,Singapore Cardiac Society. 2. Anaesthesia and Cardiac Image General anaesthesiafor cardiac MRI is governed by similar principles for any anaesthetic technique in children with heart disease.High-risk imagingrefers to imaging in patients with medical or health-related risks, imaging with equipment-related risks, and procedure-related risks such asMRI-guided surgery, minimally invasive procedures. This site describes drugs that are used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The content emphasizes the biophysical, biochemical, and cellular basis for drug therapy. My desire in publishing this web site is to provide the reader with a thorough understanding of not only general pharmacologic principles and mechanisms of action of cardiovascular drugs, but more importantly, with an understanding of the rationale for drug use. Cardiovascular Pharmacology Concepts is written primarily for students, teachers, and health professionals. The contents of this site can be entered by several different routes using the navigation bar on the left. Searches can be conducted on individual words or phrases, or by clicking on the links that organize the content by clinical disorders, drug therapeutic classes, and drug class mechanisms. This web site is a companion site to http://www.cvphysiology.com, which has been an important resource for cardiovascular physiology since it was first published on the web in 1999. Therefore, there are many cross links between http://www.cvpharmacology.com and http://www.cvphysiology.com that are useful in reinforcing both physiologic and pharmacologic concepts. Richard E. EMS Pharmacology: Drugs That Affect the Cardiovascular …

Posted: April 11, 2018 at 9:44 am

Drugs that Affect the Cardiovascular System The heart is made up of many interconnected branching fibers that form the walls of the 2 atria and 2 ventricles. Some of these fibers are capable of, and responsible for, conducting electrical impulses while other fibers are mainly responsible for muscle contraction. These specialized fibers are nourished through a vast network of blood vessels known as the coronary vasculature. Medications that affect these fibers are classified by their specific effect on the tissue. Cardiac glycosides are naturally occurring plant substances that have characteristic effects on the cardiac muscle. These specific compounds contain a carbohydrate molecule (sugar). When this molecule is combined with water, it is converted into a simple sugar plus 1 or more active substances. Glycosides may actually work by blocking certain ionic pumps in the cellular membrane. This action, indirectly increases the calcium concentration reaching the contractile proteins. A key cardiac glycoside is digoxin (Lanoxin); it is used to treat heart failure and to treat certain types of tachycardias. Digitalis glycosides can affect the heart in 3 distinctive ways: Many patients that take cardiac glycoside medication may develop side effects at one time or another due to the relatively small therapeutic … Continue reading
