5 check-ins So to all you anti-botox freaks, and haters of Dr. Darm for whatever your squirrely reasons, I snub thee. I will freely admit that I have been getting botox for those pesky little crows-feet in a preventative maintenance way for years. I certainly never once felt like I was in a puppy mill like another reviewer that shall remain as nameless as her question mark-like photo. She sort of sounds like she has an entire constellation of "issues" that are well beyond what botox is capable of fixing. In my many years of being treated at Dr. Darm's office I have always thought of him and his office as professional, his demeanor as courteous, and if I have someone poking me in the face with a sharp needle, I don't want them to linger over the poking part. I would like to have that needle in and out of my face toute de suite. So a fast injection is a good injection. Dr. Darm and the other doctor that does the injections always do their best to avoid leaving bruises but you know what? Sometimes, despite their best efforts, a bruise will occur. Deal. There is something that … Continue reading

Risk of botched laser job runs high

Posted: Published on October 12th, 2014

PHOENIX - Medical spas and retail clinics offer laser services that promise cosmetic fixes such as hair removal, skin resurfacing and age-spot elimination. But the seemingly minor, aesthetic procedures have had major consequences for men and women across the country, ranging from common skin injuries such as burns and blisters to scarring from botched laser jobs. And two young women, including one from Tucson, died when incorrectly using medicine to prepare for laser jobs. In Arizona, a consumer seeking a smooth or blemish-free body runs a more than 50-50 risk of entering a clinic that hasn't been inspected in more than a year, and a significant, though lesser, risk of being treated by a technician without proper licensing or training. Metro Phoenix doctors say and records filed with Arizona regulators show that severe burns and blistering can occur when a laser operator uses improper techniques. More than a half-dozen reports have been filed with state regulators claiming minor injuries over the past year. Medical professionals say that many incidents are likely to go unreported. "I see patients all the time getting burned from going to medical spas," said Susan Van Dyke, a dermatologist who also offers a range of cosmetic … Continue reading

Suspended GA doctor hired by St. Croix hospital despite death investigations

Posted: Published on October 11th, 2014

ATLANTA (CBS46) - A Georgia doctor, stripped of her medical license earlier this year after the deaths of two patients in Cobb County, was hired and quickly fired from the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, according to local news reports. The VI Consortium reported that Dr. Nedra Dodds was hired as an emergency room consultant at Luis Hospital on Sept. 17, 2014 -seven months after the Georgia Composite Medical Board suspended Dodd's license. In its order, the Board wrote Dodd's "continued practice of medicine poses a threat to the public health, safety and welfare." According to hospital CEO Dr. Kendall Griffith, Dodds was brought on to help improve customer service processes. Dodds' license suspension came after CBS46 News reported on the deaths of two women following plastic surgery procedures at Dodd's practice, Opulence Aesthetic Medicine in Kennesaw. CBS46 investigative reporter Adam Murphy also found Dodd's touted credentials that weren't valid. CBS46 confirmed that Dodds does not have a license to practice medicine in the U.S. Virgin Islands. According to the VI Consortium, Dr. Griffith admitted the hospital leadership did not perform a thorough background check of Dodds but insisted no patient was placed in danger. … Continue reading

Jackson Lab Opens To Big Hopes For Bioscience Growth

On the elevator walls at the new Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine are staggered, little rectangles of white light in four vertical columns resembling a Scantron answer sheet used in schools. Actually, it's a representation of DNA electrophoresis, a procedure used to analyze genes. The elevator lights are one of a few aesthetic details indicating the work that will happen at Jackson once the 158 employees move in from five different temporary spaces on the University of Connecticut Health Center campus. Researchers will assemble in the new building over the next six weeks and the lab plans to hire more people for a total of 300 over the course of three years. The building and the lab are funded in part by $291 million from a legislative act three years ago. The lab, at the entrance of the UConn Health Center, is a new campus of the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. Jackson is known around the world for its mammalian genetics research and the mice it designs for laboratories. On Thursday, journalists were given a tour of the facility ahead of the Tuesday ribbon cutting. The four-story facility is a curved rectangle for both biological and computational lab … Continue reading

Aesthetic Medicine Dr. Darm – Tigard, OR | Groupon

Posted: Published on October 2nd, 2014

From Our Editors Few people own a trademark. Dr. Jerry Darm of Aesthetic Medicine owns three. He pioneered the trademark procedures of LaserLift and LipoLift, which use noninvasive and minimally invasive techniques, respectively, to smooth fine lines and banish excess fat. To add to his repertoire, Dr. Darm added a third trademarked treatment: MiniLift. His accomplishments have led to invitations from aesthetic medical professionals around the worldincluding a 14-day trip to China to speak about his treatments at conferences in several cities. The LaserLift procedure reverses damage caused by exposure to the sun, free radicals, and gravity malfunctions by regenerating collagen and tightening the skin with laser wavelengths. LipoLift destroys fat with a laser that melts fat cells through a small incision and allows them to be removed more gently than with traditional liposuction. The MiniLift is performed only by a board-certified plastic surgeon and is available only at Aesthetic Medicine. At the Lake Oswego location, which boasts more than 14,000 square feet, Dr. Darm helps patients feel beautiful in other ways, including combating spider veins with laser therapy or sclerotherapy and keeping wrinkles at bay with injectable fillers. The center's weight-loss program helps patients shed pounds under the guidance … Continue reading

Master Gardeners celebrate progress since 2004 medicine wheel garden

Posted: Published on September 29th, 2014

In 2004, the Central Missouri Master Gardeners embarked on their largest project up to that point, inspired by the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery military expedition. Photo by Julie Smith The Master Gardeners have been involved with projects in North Jefferson City since after the floods of 1993. The demonstration garden area features numerous benches and various sections, including a conifer garden and covered pavilion. A memorial garden along with a meditation garden are in the works. They built a medicine wheel garden of native plants, straight from the adventurers journals. The North Jefferson City Demonstration Gardens continued to grow with the addition of new features, gardens, demonstrations and aesthetic settings. Ten years later, the master gardeners will celebrate their progress through the month of October. Free classes for the public will be held the first three Saturdays with a grand festival planned for the last Saturday of October. The volunteer-gardeners will host a fundraising event Oct. 9 to benefit the Parks Foundation and the garden will be lit for evening strolls Oct. 10-12.
