Study Published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Finds Tummy Tuck Improves Stress Urinary Incontinence

Posted: Published on October 23rd, 2014

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 22, 2014 Findings from a study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the official clinical publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), indicate that a tummy tuck not only improves body contour, but may also alleviate symptoms of stress urinary incontinence, especially among patients who have not undergone previous cesarean section. The study surveyed women, who underwent a tummy tuck, to ascertain changes in their stress urinary incontinence symptoms. Ninety percent of the participants had at least one pregnancy. The authors also analyzed the demographic data, amount of weight gain with pregnancy, number of pregnancies, multiple vs. single pregnancies, history of cesarean sections, amount of weight loss before surgery, symptoms related to stress or urgency incontinence, and severity of incontinence following abdominoplasty. What we found was that a tummy tuck significantly alleviated the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence in 60% of our patients, especially in patients who hadnt undergone previous cesarean section. In some abdominoplasty procedures where we pull up sufficient soft tissue in the pelvic area, we may get enough of a pull to suspend the urethra, creating a slight bladder outlet obstruction to reduce incontinence, explained Dr. James McMahan, one … Continue reading

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Dubai, the emirate known for its celebration of over-the-top glamour and luxury, is racing ahead to dominate the Middle East's plastic surgery market with plans to attract half a million medical tourists in six years. Where cosmopolitan Beirut was once the region's best known city for going under the knife, turmoil in Syria and violence often spilling into Lebanon is driving away wealthy Arab tourists. After splashing out on medical infrastructure over the past years, Dubai already ranks globally and aims to move up the list of top international destinations for medical tourism. The Science Behind Renee Zellweger's New Face

Posted: Published on October 23rd, 2014

Photographs of actress Rene Zellweger at the Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood awards this week, showing her dramatically different appearance, have sparked the Internet's interest. The 45-year-old actress looked almost unrecognizable to fans who know her best from her earlier movies such as "Jerry Maguire" and "Bridget Jones's Diary." But two cosmetic surgeons told Live Science that Zellweger's transformation could be the result of relatively minor procedures, as well as weight loss and normal aging. (Zellweger herself has attributed her changed appearance to lifestyle changes and natural aging.) Zellweger looks so different because her most distinctive features are the ones that changed dramatically, said both Dr. Michael C. Edwards, the president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and Dr. Stuart Linder, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California. [7 Plastic Surgery Myths Revealed] It doesn't seem likely that the actress had an invasive surgery, such as a mini-facelift, done, Edwards said. Still, "it's a pretty remarkable change," he said. Eyes make the face The biggest difference in Zellweger's appearance is around her eye area, Edwards said. The actress always had very distinctive, heavy eyelids. "That's what made her Renee Zellweger," Edwards told Live Science. But in the … Continue reading

Plastic Surgeon in Orange County Answers Two Facial Rejuvenation FAQs

Posted: Published on October 23rd, 2014

SOURCE: Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute Dr. Daniel Mills of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute Answers Two Popular Questions Asked by Patients Considering Facial Rejuvenation Surgery at His Practice LAGUNA BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 22, 2014) - According to Orange County plastic surgeon Daniel Mills, MD, facial rejuvenation surgeries comprise a large percentage of the total number of cosmetic procedures he performs at the Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute each year. During the consultation process for facial rejuvenation surgery, he says the majority of his prospective patients often have several similar inquiries, two of which commonly include: 1.How Much Younger Will I Look After Facial Rejuvenation Surgery? 2.How Much Pain Should I Expect After Facial Rejuvenation Surgery? Though he acknowledges the answer to the first question varies by individual, Dr. Mills says most of his patients feel they appear about eight to ten years younger after facial rejuvenation surgery, depending on the particular procedure and/or combination of procedures they receive. For example, he says facelift surgery performed alone will likely take more years off one's face than a browlift, just as both procedures performed in combination with blepharoplasty will often yield more dramatic results than each procedure achieves on its own. In … Continue reading

Study Finds Combination Breast Lift and Augmentation Safe and Efficient

Posted: Published on October 18th, 2014

(PRWEB) October 17, 2014 Arecent study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal has found that performing mastopexy, or breast lift, together with breast augmentation in the same procedure is safe and effective. The study found that complications and necessity of revision surgery were the same as when the procedures were performed separately, effectively making a single procedure more efficient. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Chasan discusses the benefits of having augmentation done at the same time as a breast lift. Sometimesbreast augmentationis desired along with a breast lift to give the breasts a fuller, better look, said Dr. Chasan. Performing the augmentation at the same time as the lift saves the patient a second surgery, and gives them their preferred look more quickly. Breast lifts are a complex procedure, butthey are perfectly safewith a board-certified surgeon with years of experience. Mastopexy alone can lift and restore breasts to an extent, but many women prefer a different shape than what only a mastopexy can provide. In these cases, an experienced surgeon will be able to perform an augmentation along with the breast lift in order to achieve the most optimal result for the patient. Breast lifts are not a one-size-fits-all procedure, and … Continue reading
