New Partnership to Promote International Dermatologic Surgery Education

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2014

Rolling Meadows, IL (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and the Dermatologic & Aesthetic Surgery International League (DASIL) have approved a new partnership that will improve the awareness of and access to the organizations educational programs. The groups will collaborate to advance two international mentoring programs, with members of both groups encouraged to participate in existing programs and cross-promotional exchanges. Our organizations have complementary interests, said ASDS President Mitchel P. Goldman, M.D. ASDS is a mature organization well-known for the excellence of its educational programs and faculty. The younger and growing DASIL, meanwhile, focuses on advancing dermatologic surgery education to all parts of the world outside the United States. Since our inaugural meeting in Malta in 2012, our charge has been to offer top-notch educational programs in dermatologic and aesthetic surgery around the planet, and to foster growth of the dermatologic surgery specialty around the world, said DASIL President Sheldon V. Pollack, M.D. This new partnership helps both organizations fulfill key goals. Pollack noted DASILs already close, existing ASDS ties. He, Treasurer and Past President Michael H. Gold, M.D., and President-Elect Marc B. Roscher, M.D., are all ASDS members. Under the partnership, the organizations will … Continue reading

Canutillo Elementary School features breast implants at career day

Posted: Published on May 7th, 2014

By: Joshua Zuber EL PASO, Texas --One parent during a career day at Canutillo Independent School District's Garcia Elementary brought in silicone breast implants last week to explain how she did her job. Sebra Gonzalez is that parent and is the marketing manager of Plastic Surgery Envy Aesthetic Center. Gonzalez told KFOX 14 it was to show how she markets the products and talk about breast cancer awareness to second-, fourth- and fifth-grade students. "I was trying to be educational as far as how you market plastic surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, not cosmetic plastic surgery," Gonzalez said. Some parents disagree with her actions. They refused to go on the record with KFOX 14. A Canutillo district spokesperson did, however. "It was material that (is) perhaps not age-appropriate for elementary school," said Gustavo Reveles, spokesman for Canutillo ISD. Gonzalez disagrees with that notion, saying she was trying to send a message to the kids about cancer awareness as well as preventative treatments like wearing sunscreen. "Nothing was meant to be inappropriate. I had administration there. If at any time they thought that I was doing something inappropriate, I'm sure that they would have stood up and said something," Gonzalez said. Reveles … Continue reading

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Hosts Panel on Facial Fat Volumization at Its 2014 Annual Meeting

Posted: Published on April 28th, 2014

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) hosted a panel of plastic surgeons at its 2014 Aesthetic meeting in San Francisco, CA today, who presented the latest findings on facial fat volumization including when to use it, where to place it and how to remove it when necessary. While the addition of volume is not a new concept, (nearly a century ago paraffin was used experimentally to this end), the practice had been abandoned for decades until recently, when doctors discovered the myriad benefits of using ones own fat to fill out hollow and gaunt areas of the face and the secondary beneficial properties of doing so. Val Lambros, MD, one of the panelists explained, The use of fat to add volume to the face is the best thing to happen to plastic surgery since the debut of the facelift. It is truly the best substance imaginable when used appropriately and in reasonable quantities. You can yield spectacular results with fat, however it is a biological material, and can therefore grow if a patient gains weight or can sometimes disappear completely. If it is overdone this can result in complications, so knowing … Continue reading
