Grey's Anatomy: Maggie discovers the truth – EW.com (blog)

Posted: Published on April 27th, 2017

Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Thursdays episode of Greys Anatomy. Read at your own risk! Maggie finally discovered the truth about Meredith and Riggs during Thursdays episode of Greys Anatomy and it was painful. After Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Riggs (Martin Henderson) helped saved numerous passengers on their ill-fated flight last week, the two were honored at a press conference. Though Meredith had already planned to tell Maggie (Kelly McCreary) the truth before the conference, Riggs show of affection for Meredith clued Maggie in that her crush has been hooking up with her sister. But Maggie was even more shocked to discover that Meredith had been sleeping with him since before Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owens (Kevin McKidd) wedding, where Maggie first admitted to Mer she had a crush on the doc. Merediths betrayal was all the more heartbreaking because, following the death of Maggies mother, Mer is all Maggie has left and both women lied to Maggie to terrible results. So, how will Maggie handle this reveal moving forward? Though she agrees to go out with Maggie and Amelia for a girls night out, theres certainly still going to be some trust issues. Maggie maybe has to … Continue reading

Grey's Anatomy Almost Had a Totally Different (and Really Bad) Title – Glamour

Posted: Published on April 27th, 2017

PHOTO: Scott Garfield/ABC/Getty Images Grey's Anatomy, the anchor of Thursday night television that will probably never end, was almost an entirely different show. As in, it didn't take place in Seattle, it didn't have Alex Karev, and it didn't even have Grey's in the title. If you're feeling shook right now, don't worrywe are too. The creator of the famous medical drama (along with its Thursday night buddies Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder), Shonda Rhimes, recently revealed all of those secrets and more to the students of her writing-for-television master class. By sharing the original pitch she wrote for Grey's Anatomy, along with early script drafts and alternate scenes, Rhimes gave a peek at just how different the drama could have been. For starters, as reported by Elle, the show wasn't even initially called Grey's Anatomy. Instead, it was named Surgeons, which is about as bland of a title as it gets. (No offense.) Sure, its long-running medical predecessors ER and House both had simple, one-word titlesbut the double entendre that is Grey's Anatomy works so much better. Other shocking revelations include: It was originally going to be set in either New York, Philadelphia, or Boston. ("Big … Continue reading

If youre a traveller in right wing Australian Facebook circles, theres a fair chance you did. From the Kim Vuga Love Australia Or Leave Party page to the Bolt Report Supporters group, rumours of Alys disrespect have been circling for a few days. The only problem is, its just not true. Grey's Anatomy recap: 'Don't Stop Me Now' – EW.com

Posted: Published on April 27th, 2017

One patient had worms breeding inside her. The end. Just kidding. There was more to this episode, but honestly, the pasta-like worms were everywhere even in scenes most definitelynotabout the worms, you were thinking about the worms. Or if, like me, you are getting over a stomach bug, you were thinking, Please dont throw up, please dont throw up, please dont throw up. Also? Spaghetti is ruined. Forever. All you really need to know about the worms is that a patient had them, her new boyfriend ditched her once he found out, and then he returned later (after the worms were cleared from his girlfriend, it should be noted), once he realized he was being a butthead. Oh, and April got one in her hair. And you thought licewere bad! In non-worm news, Bailey notices Richard and Catherine arent speaking, and she wants to fix it because of course she does. She spends the entire episode trying to figure out how to get them back on speaking terms. April eventually clues Bailey in on something: She and Catherine are very, very alike. Soon after, Baileys confronting her sort-of twin about how she needs to woman up and talk to her … Continue reading

Posted: Published on April 26th, 2017

News of Jesse Williams split from wife Aryn Drake-Lee came as a shock to Greys Anatomy fans and to those who know the former couple well. None of us saw this coming, a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE exclusively. Jesse lived for her. Williams, 35, wed Drake-Lee in 2012 after five years of dating and is father to their two young children: daughter Sadie, 3, and son Maceo, who was born in 2015. The source believes the Greys star was the one to actually file for divorce. If you knew the couple they were back in Brooklyn, when he had dreads and a backpack and she was grinding doing real estate, you wouldnt believe it,explains the source, who thinks the pairs relocation to Los Angeles contributed to tensions in their relationship. Anatomy of a goal: Breaking down the Seattle Sounders' second tally against the LA Galaxy – SoundersFC.com

Posted: Published on April 26th, 2017

Last Sunday in a 3-0 road win overthe LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer opted to start Will Bruin up front and move Jordan Morris to the left wing. And for the first time in 2017, the Sounders offense clicked looked the explosive juggernaut it could be. The reason why the adjustment is so successful is because it more naturally suits Morris and Bruins styles of play. Morris is much more of a second striker and loves to run at defenders in space. Bruin is a target forward by trade, who is comfortable with his back to goal and stretching center backs deep. Watching the Sounders front four operate against the Galaxy was like watching poetry in motion, the way Morris, Bruin, Clint Dempsey and Nicolas Lodeiro bossed the attacking third. In previous matches, Dempsey, Lodeiro and Harry Shipp stepped on each others toes and often made the same runs, while Morris was left on an island and a non-factor. Thepersonnel shift Schmetzer made last Sunday unlocked another offensive dimension. To see how effectively this worked, lets take a look at the second goal the Sounders scored against the Galaxy. It was an own goal off the foot … Continue reading

Using antique wax figures to learn about anatomy – Scope (blog)

Posted: Published on April 26th, 2017

Look at the detail inside the heart, said Paul Brown, DDS, a consulting associate professor of anatomy at Stanford. Isnt that phenomenal? I tend to turn away at the sight of blood or bones. And yet here I was, inside of an anatomy lab on assignment and admiring high-resolution photographs of human anatomy wax sculptures. The wax statues, or waxes, were created 250 years ago in Florence, Italy and are located in La Specola, one of the worlds oldest museums of natural history. The museum is home to about a thousand wax figures; each meant to capture the intricacies of what lies beneath the skin. Brown, who loves creating digital libraries of medical images, has captured around 200 of the waxes in an effort to make them accessible, and to use them as visual aids in anatomy classrooms at Stanford and beyond. We were introduced to the waxes this year,Shayan Fakurnejad, a second-year medical student, told me for an Inside Stanford Medicine piece I wrote on the wax figures. Theyre really a great way of simplifying some of the anatomy you see in the cadavers. Theyre just gorgeous pieces, too. But medical students arent the only ones using the waxes … Continue reading
