Mesenchymal Stem Cells Market- MSC Product is Stem Cells Fastest Growing Area Says New Research Report at …

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2013

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) May 12, 2013 Analysis of global grant activity, scientific publication rates, and patent applications reveal that research activity involving mesenchymal stem cells increased 58% year-over-year from 2008 to 2009, and 112% from 2009 to 2010. Of most interest is that this rate of growth accelerated in 2011, making mesenchymal stem cells the fastest growing area of stem cell research. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells that can differentiate into a variety of cell types, including osteoblasts, chondrocytes, myocytes, adipocytes, beta-pancreatic islets cells, and potentially, neuronal cells. MSCs are of intense therapeutic interest because they represent a population of cells with the potential to treat a wide range of acute and degenerative diseases. Revealing Unique Strategic Opportunities & Unknown Competitive Advantages MSCs are advantageous over other stem cells types for several reasons. First, they avoid the ethical issues that surround embryonic stem cell research. Second, repeated studies have found that human MSCs are immuno-privileged, and therefore, represent an advantageous cell type for allogenic transplantation, reducing the risks of rejection and complications of transplantation. Recently, there have also been significant advances in the use of autologous MSCs to regenerate human tissues, including cartilage and meniscus, tendons, and … Continue reading

Stem cells show promise for treating rare nerve disease

Posted: Published on May 11th, 2013

Led by Dr. Peiyee Lee and Dr. Richard Gatti, researchers at the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCLA have used induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to advance disease-in-a-dish modeling of a rare genetic disorder, ataxia telangiectasia (A-T). Their discovery shows the positive effects of drugs that may lead to effective new treatments for the neurodegenerative disease. iPS cells are made from patients' skin cells, rather than from embryos, and they can become any type of cells, including brain cells, in the laboratory. The study appears online ahead of print in the journal Nature Communications. People with A-T begin life with neurological deficits that become devastating through progressive loss of function in a part of the brain called the cerebellum, which leads to severe difficulty with movement and coordination. A-T patients also suffer frequent infections due to their weakened immune systems and have an increased risk for cancer. The disease is caused by lost function in a gene, ATM, that normally repairs damaged DNA in the cells and preserves normal function. Developing a human neural cell model to understand A-T's neurodegenerative process and create a platform for testing new treatments was critical because … Continue reading

Stem Cell Injection Research Study Now Enrolling at the Arizona Pain Stem Cell Institute for Painful Spine and …

Posted: Published on May 10th, 2013

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) May 09, 2013 The new Arizona Pain Stem Cell Institute is beginning a research project involving stem cell injections. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of a regenerative medicine product clinically for back and neck pain along with pain in the shoulder, knee, hip and sacroiliac joint. Those interested should call (602) 507-6550. One of the main benefits of the study is that it is industry subsidized, therefore, the cost of the procedures is 40% less than the typical fees charged for the injections. The stem cell injection study is a non-randomized, prospective study looking at the effectiveness of stem cell injections into spinal joints for back and neck pain along with shoulder, hip, knee and the sacroiliac joints. The benefit of a non-randomized study is that all participants will receive the stem cell product. The product is an amniotic derived stem cell rich substance that also has a high concentrate of hyaluronic acid and growth factors. It is hypothesized that the stem cell portion of the injection will help repair and regenerate damaged tissue, but the hyaluronic acid and the growth factors may contribute to pain relief and tissue repair as well. Anecdotal reports of the … Continue reading

Cell Culture: The Market for Media, Sera and Reagents, 5th Edition

Posted: Published on May 8th, 2013

NEW YORK, May 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue: Cell Culture: The Market for Media, Sera and Reagents, 5th Edition http://www.reportlinker.com/p01172034/Cell-Culture-The-Market-for-Media-Sera-and-Reagents-5th-Edition .html#utm_source=prnewswire&utm_medium=pr&utm_campaign=NoCategory The growth in biopharmaceuticals is creating an unprecedented increase in demand for cell culture products. Cell culture techniques have been used in biological sciences for more than 50 years; however, cell culture techniques have been applied to production systems for only about 26 years. The cell culture industry, which began in the late 1980s from the utilization of recombinant DNA technology and cell hybridization, is today a major underpinning of the biopharmaceutical market. The choice of cells to use in biopharmaceutical production depends on a number of factors, some technical and some economic. Bacteria and yeast, for instance, are relatively simple to grow. Each cell of a bacterium or yeast is an independent organism capable of its own metabolism. Yeasts and bacteria have fairly simple nutritional needs and grow well suspended in a liquid medium, as well as in large fermentors. This report is focused on cell culture used in the research and production of biopharmaceuticals. In the pharmaceutical industry, cell culture is a major foundation of … Continue reading
