Seven Threats against the Culture of Life - Scott Gaylord, JD, Ph.D. (Introduction) CatholicCourses.BenedictPress.com Seven Threats against the Culture of Life From Abortion to Euthanasia Professor Scott Gaylord, JD, Ph.D. Join Dr. Scott Gaylord for an in-depth exploration of the scientific, legal, philosophical, and moral dimensions of some of the most important battleground issues regarding the Culture of Life:◦ Redefining "life"◦ Abortion and contraception◦ Embyronic stem cell research◦ In Vitro fertilization◦ And more! The threat to the Culture of Life that these issues pose has intensified in recent years due to at least three ongoing developments: 1. Advances in scientific research and technology, which enable us to control the creation (and destruction) of human life in unprecedented ways 2. The ever-increasing realiance of our society on the courts to legislate what is right or wrong regarding these scientific advances The loss of a moral dimension to the scientific and legal discussion that determine how society treats the most vulnerable among us at the beginning, as well as at the end, of life. A complete understanding of these pressing life issues requires an understanding of the interrelation between science, law, and morality. This interconnectedness is all … Continue reading

Derren Brown: Fear and Faith, Episode 2 [HD] English subtitles. Derren Brown demonstrates how he can induce a "religious experience" in a self-styled Atheist (and stem-cell scientist). He reproduces a number of well known psychology experiments which show how even non-believers are "hard-wired" to be susceptible to suggestions of super-natural (and religious) presences. From:Nacido AteoViews:1 0ratingsTime:47:27More inEntertainment Read more: Derren Brown: Fear and Faith, Episode 2 [HD] English subtitles. - Video … Continue reading

Regenetek Research Inc. Launches New Intelligent Software for Therapeutic Stem Cell Trials

Posted: Published on December 12th, 2012

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Doug Broeska, Ph.D., CEO of Regenetek Research Inc., an international medical research company with offices in Canada and India has announced that they are launching new web-based, self-managing, clinical trial software that amongst other things will be able to extend patient Registry information into individual patient case studies and aggregate the data with comparisons to cohorts. The company has so far specifically focused their new technology on a number of autologous therapeutic stem cell trials for a range of neurologic diseases that are taking place in multiple centers worldwide. Such software would have important application where limited financial resources are combined with the need to validate efficacy and prove reproducibility of therapy protocols. "The ability to rigorously evaluate individual patients, monitor adverse events, and aggregate data from different patients in different centers while maintaining ethical standards will achieve better control of bias, generate greater statistical power, and produce more meaningful conclusions for clinical outcomes," says Dr. Broeska, CEO of Regenetek Research. Indeed, for cases where every patient's cells are unique, randomized controlled trials are simply not possible as an appropriate design for clinical investigation. "This is just getting back to the basics of … Continue reading

1. Introduction and Overview- Biotechnology: Panacea or Pandora's Box NQ Given the rapid recent advances in genomics, agriculture, transgenic biology, stem cell research and other related areas of biotechnology and a prediction that these fields will continue to mature and become increasingly more sophisticated, there is an growing need to create an informed and educated student in this area. We believe that a working knowledge of DNA, genetics, and biotechnology has become as fundamental to a basic education as an understanding of the solar system. In addition, biotechnology fields offer students career opportunities which is best recognized early in their academics so that they can make the appropriate choices to be best prepared. The rise of recent controversy and misconceptions about many areas of biotechnology including GMOs in food, vaccines and vaccination, personalized medicine, stem cell research and many other topics creates a growing educational challenge. The introduction of a general education course which concentrates on evidence based knowledge on biotechnology and is developed for a general audience with a large potential enrollment is designed to meet that challenge. In turn our experience shows that such a course serves to recruit new scientists and other participants into the careers … Continue reading

Posted: Published on December 10th, 2012

LARKSPUR, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As part of its ongoing effort to support the scientific community, BioCision LLC, a leader in the advanced temperature management of biomedical samples, announced the availability of free Cool Stem Kits to academic stem cell research programs in the U.S. and Europe. Stem cells are a promising area of research for an array of treatments and cures, but cultures require frequent handling and many labs lack the equipment needed to ensure the reproducibility required for clinical research. Nearly everyone inside and outside of the scientific community agrees that stem cell research represents one of the most exciting and promising frontiers for treating a myriad of diseases and conditions, said Rolf Ehrhardt, CEO, BioCision. As an innovator of sample handing, cooling and freezing products, we felt a program like this would be of great service to the stem cell community. Each Cool Stem Kit includes recently launched, second generation cooling products: The area of stem cell research is full of unknowns, which is part of what motivates scientists, said Rick I. Cohen, Ph.D., Director of the Stem Cell Training Course at Rutgers University. When we discovered BioCisions cryopreservation products, we were eager to incorporate them into our research … Continue reading
