Prof Siddharthan Chandran - Stem cell research Professor Siddharthan Chandran is Director of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research at the University of Edinburgh. Stem cells have heralded a revolution in research, offering genuine possibilities for the discovery and delivery of new treatments. Professor Chandran will explore the myths and hype surrounding stem cells and present the potential promise research in this area could bring to patients with neurodegenerative conditions. This lecture is part of the Medical Detectives, a series of public lectures that show how keen detective work is still essential for 21st century doctors: http://www.ed.ac.uk Recorded on 1 November 2012 in the Anatomy Lecture Theatre at the University of Edinburgh.From:EdinburghUniversityViews:115 5ratingsTime:56:05More inEducation Go here to see the original: Prof Siddharthan Chandran - Stem cell research - Video … Continue reading

A Catholic Priest Speaks to Voters about Faith, Partisanship, and Intrinsic Evil – Video

Posted: Published on November 7th, 2012

A Catholic Priest Speaks to Voters about Faith, Partisanship, and Intrinsic Evil Fr. Weiss speaks forcefully to Catholic voters, warning them that they must put the Faith ahead of partisanship. This is an election with consequences of Biblical proportion. We cannot grant all issues of public policy the same weight. How to perform the corporal works of mercy, such as feeding the hungry or sheltering the homeless, is a matter for debate. But we cannot be complicit with intrinsic evil. That is not debatable. Among the intrinsic evils are abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, contraception, sterilization, and same sex marriage. Father warns that those who have already voted for intrinsic evil, with full knowledge, and without repenting, will lose their souls. Using words from the Declaration of Independence, he calls on us to alter our government, bringing it into conformance with "the laws of nature and of nature's God,"From:Saint CeciliaViews:20005 57ratingsTime:22:30More inNonprofits Activism Read the original: A Catholic Priest Speaks to Voters about Faith, Partisanship, and Intrinsic Evil - Video … Continue reading

RBCC: n3D Technology Advances Cell Research

Posted: Published on November 7th, 2012

NOKOMIS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rainbow Biosciences, the biotech subsidiary of Rainbow Coral Corp. (RBCC), announced today that 3D cell culturing technology developed by its joint venture partner Nano3D BioSciences (n3D) was recently used in a breakthrough study using stem cells. Dr. Mikhail Kolonin, an associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and Dr. Glauco Souza of n3D authored a study that demonstrates how effective 3D cell culturing by magnetic levitation is in generating white adipose tissue organoids, or adiposphere. In a significant breakthrough, these 3D structures presented vascular-like structures when pre-adpocyte stem cells were co-cultured with endothelial cells. The study, Adipose tissue engineering in three-dimensional levitation tissue culture system based on magnetic nanoparticles, was published in the journal Tissue Engineering C. This paper shows just how valuable n3Ds Bio-Assembler can be in ground-breaking research being conducted around the world, said RBCC CEO Patrick Brown. As more and more high-profile cell researchers discover this systems potential, the market for the technology will continue to grow exponentially. The Bio-Assemblers fusion of magnetic levitation and nanoparticle assembly technology allows it to produce accurate, 3D representations of in vivo tissues faster and easier than any other existing tools. The incredible … Continue reading

26. Medical Biotechnology: Part Ic. Animal and Human Cloning and Genetic Engineering NQ Some of the same techniques described for stem cell research, have been extended and applied to animal cloning, creating part of the controversies surrounding both topics. What is cloning? Cloning an organism (as a totally different process distinguished from cloning a gene) is a process whereby all members are directly descended, asexually, from a single organism by......various ways, as we show in this section, and this demonstrates that all the information required for an organism and its development are in the a single cell. many animals have now been cloned, including, sheep (Dolly), cattle, pigs, mice, rats, fish, dogs, cats, horses, mules, and more recently monkeys. Can humans be cloned? Probably. From:Albert KauschViews:0 0ratingsTime:25:37More inScience Technology Read the rest here: 26. Medical Biotechnology: Part Ic.
