Baldness Drug's Sex Effects Possibly Permanent, Study Says

Kevin Malley was almost 30, and he was starting to lose his hair. He went to his doctor to see if there was a way to keep from going bald, and his doctor prescribed Propecia. "I looked young for my age, so I wanted to hold off my hair loss for a little bit," Malley said. "I didn't plan on taking Propecia for more than a year." Malley started taking the drug in May 2011, and by October he was completely impotent and had no sex drive whatsoever. His body changed, even his genitals shrank, and he slipped into a mental fog that he just couldn't clear. His doctor told him the side effects would go away if he stopped taking the drug, so he did. But nothing changed. "I kept expecting the side effects to go away, but they did not, they only got worse," he said. Malley is not alone: A new study published today in the Journal of Sexual Medicine suggests that for some men, the sexual side effects of Propecia may last for months to years, even after they stop taking the drug. Source: PerthNow POLICE have seized drugs, more than $100,000 in stolen property, firearms and ammunition in a series of raids on homes in Perth's northern suburbs. The raids were part of an operation targeting high volume burglars and mid-level drug dealers. Three people, two men and one woman, have been charged over the haul of drugs and stolen property, which includes quad-bikes, flat screen televisions, cars and motorbikes. It will be alleged the three charged were supplying drugs to others committing burglaries. North West Metropolitan District Superintendent Charlie Carver said today the raids were carried out on homes in Clarkson, Kinross, Aveley and Mariginiup. It will be alleged the majority of the stolen property was located at the Aveley address. PEPFAR, the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is responsible for getting millions of people on treatment. But researchers say it was not until the program started using cheaper generic drugs that great strides were made against the epidemic. PEPFAR is considered one of the hallmarks of President George W. Bushs time in office. Its goal was to transform HIV/AIDS from a death sentence into a manageable chronic disease. And for millions of people around the world, thats now the case as the program continues under President Obama. However, Dr. Kartik Venkatesh said when PEPFAR began it was hampered by the high cost of brand name antiretroviral drugs. Early on, PEPFAR wasnt able to reach nearly as many individuals because if the proprietary versions of these drugs were going to be used, simply, with the limited budget only so many could be reached. Source: AP A WORLD-renowned Australian stem cell expert working on a cure for HIV says their research is about to progress to human trials. Professor Alan Trounson heads the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, which is advancing towards a cure for conditions including HIV and diabetes. Prof Trounson, the former director of Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories in Melbourne, said the research institute's work towards a HIV cure was about to enter human trials. He said if the trials were successful further research would be needed to modify the technology so it could be affordably used where it is needed most, in Africa. "I want the HIV work to go globally because it shouldn't be restricted to patients in Western (countries)," Prof Trounson said. "We're going to have to modify some of that further research to get it into a suitable treatment that we can use in Africa. "I'm very hopeful that the industry will do that. "The key thing is right here, a lot of men think they're small or inadequate," said Dr. Victor Loria, a cosmetic surgeon. Dr. Loria is helping men feel more adequate with his non-surgical method. "I feel like in a year or two this will be the gold standard for girth and glands enlargement," he said. Coping with problems in the bedroom

Many of the men I see come to me because they are experiencing erectile dysfunction problems. The men, who vary in age, had previously taken their ability to perform in the bedroom for granted and have trouble understanding why this is happening to them now. A common cause of erectile dysfunction, in young men, is performance anxiety. They experience great fear every time they engage in sexual intercourse, especially if it is with a new partner. They terrify themselves with thoughts of: "will I get hard enough", "will I keep it up", "how long will I last" and "will she tell her friends?" These are common performance anxiety thoughts, but they can cause men to lose their erections immediately. This, in turn, exacerbates their anxiety and leads to troublesome feelings of sadness, disappointment, guilt and shame. The more this happens, the more these men lose their confidence. They may start avoiding sex or become so traumatised they stop having sex all together. This cycle often continues until it is addressed.
