With the arrival of this years World Parkinsons Day on Thursday, its unfortunate to see that there is still no clear established cure for the disease that plagues many of our elderly. Thankfully, that doesnt stop us at all from trying, as the market is still home to a number of devices that are designed to help address and even ease the diseases many, many symptoms.

And these come at such trying times, with approximately 10 million people worldwide diagnosed with the disease, making it the second most common neurodegenerative disorder, coming just behind Alzheimers.

With that, we list here some of the best minimally invasive treatments designed to address its many symptoms and help make lives a little better:

Personal KinetiGraph Developed by Australia-based Global Kinetics Corporation, the Persona KinetiGraph that minimizes doctor visits by collecting data on a patients movement, which it then uses to provide information about the main symptoms of Parkinsons.

The device is currently available in 17 countries.

Lookinglass Made by a start-up, the Lookinglass is a web application designed to detect early warning signs of the disease in question. It does this by asking users to upload a video of the patient/sufferer doing certain tasks. Then, through AI technology and machine learning, it tracks movements in various joints and compares the data with known Parkinsons symptoms.

Our solution removes the manual effort for diagnosis and reduces error caused by ineffective communication technologies, the start-ups CEO Kelly Carpenter said.

cueStim Made to be worn around the waist, the cueStim is a device that prevents Gait Freezing, which is a common Parkinsons condition in which sufferers describe the feeling as having their feet glued to the ground. The system does this via an electric simulation.

Effective and practical, the device is controlled via Bluetooth through a smartphone.

Vercise Primary Cell and Vercise Gevia Launched by Boston Scientific, the vercise primary cell and the vercise gevia are brain simulation system products. FDA-approved and powered by an implantable pulse generator, these devices allow physicians to control the shape, position, range and direction of electrical simulation needed to treat Parkinsons patients.

Of course, these devices merely address the symptoms of the disease, and were far from a sure cure. Nevertheless, these give hope that one day we might be able to fully stop the disease once and for all.
