The news comes as Bayers 3rd Quarter financial report shows the German drug maker is not only resolving thousands of Yaz and Yasmin injury claims, but is also increasing settlement amounts.
The Legal Notes and Business Development section of the Bayer Interim Financial Statement dated September 30, 2012 confirms the company has resolved almost 3,500 injury claims so far for a total cost of nearly $750 million, or an average of approximately $214,000 per case.
Bloomberg News had reported on July 31st that Bayer began settling around 1900 Yaz lawsuits at an average of around $212,000.
Bayer also confirmed in the latest report that they are only settling claims involving blood clot injuries, such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
Anyone who suffered a blood clot, DVT, stroke or Pulmonary Embolism after taking Yaz or Yasmin is urged to contact the Drug Risk Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options.
Due to the number of patients filing claims, cases were consolidated to a special federal Multi-District Litigation court in Illinois. The formal case is known as Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 2100, Southern District Illinois).
The news of increasing Yaz lawsuit settlement values is positive for those injured who have yet to file a claim. However, time is limited and only certain cases may qualify.
