KIMT NEWS 3 According to a new study from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention,prescriptiondrug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the U.S.

Its not difficult to believe when it seems like everywhere we turn theres another ad for a new drug.

Addiction counselor, Lorrie Young is seeing a change in our countrys prescription drug usage.

She said, I think we have become a society that if you look even at the commercials on television, it says if something hurts or something doesnt feel good, take a pill and that will fix it.

And more people are turning to that as a fix.

According to the CDC Enough prescription painkillers were prescribed in 2010 to medicate every American adult around-the-clock for one month.

When prescription drugs are taken according to a doctors instructions, theyre usually safe and are sometimes very necessary, but the abuse of certain types can become a problem.

Young said, Some of the synthetics opiods such asOxycontin Oxycodone, percocetpain medications, the narcotics.

Even local medical professionals say theres a need for a cultural reboot of how we take care medical issues.
