One in 88 children are impacted by autism. That number from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the number continues to rise.

Students at Minot State University studying communication disorders recognize Autism as a relevant area of discussion and hosted a conference on the disorder with Dr. Glenis Benson as the guest speaker. Dr. Benson is renowned for her work in the autism spectrum disorder field. Kristen Schneider, a Communication Disorders major at Minot State helped organize the conference.

(Kristen Schneider, MSU Senior) "It is an opportunity for our students to receive exceptional training from people all over the country. Instead of flying a few students out to a conference, we would rather bring someone in so that our entire student group can benefit." Schneider was especially interested to hear Dr. Benson speak on a topic that she has a passion for.

(Kristen Schneider, MSU Senior) "I worked in a camp for kids with autism. Since then I've don't therapy with kids with autism and continued to work with them. I have just really fell in love with the population."

Over 250 students, faculty and area professionals attended to learn more about the assessment and treatment of autism.
