A student who scored 100 per cent in an exam has landed a national award.

Rachel Doyle has been honoured by the Royal Society of Chemistry for her stunning performance.

The Ayr girl soared to success while sitting her final tests at Wellington school.

She left for St Andrews University after bagging A grades at Advanced Higher in Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

And she was back in Ayr to receive her award and to speak to pupils at a special assembly.

She said: I am still surprised at receiving the award from the Royal Society of Chemistry, something which I never expected would happen to me.

It was, however, very exciting and has helped make up for dragging my parents to the local beaches to collect freezing cold seawater.

Winning the award has also helped confirm that following a career path in chemistry is something I genuinely want to do.

Speaking to other students at university who sat A-levels or went to school in America, they dont get this hands-on experience so it is something not to take for granted whilst at school.
