In a school year where close competition with Powell High School has been the norm, the 3A West Regionals in Lander was no exception.

The Star Valley Braves, carried by strong performances in the sprints, distance and throwing events edged Powell 147.0 to 136.0. Cody was third with 112.0 team points while Jackson was close behind with 110.0.

The Braves got three championship performances out of senior Reno Averill who took the 100 meter, 200 meter and triple jump events. Averill placed second in the long jump to Lymans Bobby Wingeleth. Ryan Brough was perhaps the surprise of the meet as he edged out the competition by just 0.2 seconds in the 110 hurdles to win the event and then duplicated the win in the 300 meter hurdles as well. David Livingston placed first in the 400 meter run and was second to team mate Averill in the 200. He also placed second in the 800 meter run. Sam Gertsch finished second in the shot put and Cody Peck did the same in the 3200 meter run. Finally, the top finishes also included a second place finish for the 4 x 100 meter relay of Tyler Allred, Gertsch, Dalton MaGee and Nigel Dice. See full results by clicking here.

The Lady Braves had some stellar performances but did not have the depth to unseat the defending champion Cody Fillies, finishing with 142.0 team points to Codys 183.0. Ivy Myers put in an all-time type of weekend as she won all four of her events in dominating fashion. Myers, who will run for the University of Wyoming next season, captured the 100, 200 and 400 meter titles and ran the anchor leg of the 4 x 100 meter relay to claim four gold medals. Sophomore Hannah Demler won the 3200 meter event while senior Hailey Ricks set a new school record in the 1600, finishing first with a time of 5:14.96. Demler and Ricks combined with BreeAnn Guzman and Tori Heap to win the 4 x 800 meter relay as well.

The Lady Braves won the programs only track & field title in the 4A class in 2010.

The Braves are trying to end the longest active title drought at SVHS with the last boys track & field title coming in 1983.
