The Star Valley Lady Braves and the Star Valley Braves basketball teams will be playing in the championship games of the Wyoming Class 3A State Tournament in Casper on Saturday, March 9.

The Lady Braves worked their way to the final game by defeating Buffalo 64-32 on Thursday, March 7, and beating Rawlins 54-30 on Friday, March 8.

The Braves battled their way into the final game by defeating Wheatland 56-31 on Thursday, March 7 and Lander Valley 38-25 on Friday, March 8.

The Braves will play in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. They will face the winner of the Cody-Powell game. The Lady Braves will play Douglas for the championship at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Lady Braves: 54 Lady Outlaws: 30

A very aggressive Star Valley team jumped out to an 11-point lead in a revenge rematch from last years 3A semi-finals. However, the aggression came with a price as the Lady Braves saw Jessica Woodford and Lexi Erickson head to the bench with foul trouble.

Rawlins made a push to cut the lead to just two points at 21-19 early in the third period. But the ladies slammed the door with some stifling defense as they finished the game on a 33-11 run and a 54-30 victory.

Hailey Greenwood made nine field goals and had the game-high of 19 points. Woodford scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and was perfect from the field. Erickson finished with nine. The bench was a huge key in the game as Abby Nicoll played big minutes on the guard line and Shelbey Brog and Jennifer Perry each made key passes and steals. Cortland Jenkins and Shay Schwab combined for eight assists.

The championship game against Douglas is a rematch of last years first round Star Valley win. Douglas has not lost a game since. The Lady Braves are back in the title game for the first time since 2004-05, a 59-41 loss to Douglas.
