Did you know that an estimated 65 million people worldwide live with epilepsy?

In fact, more people live with epilepsy than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinsons disease combined.

In Ontario, approximately 95,000 people live with epilepsy with 6,000 new cases diagnosed every year, meaning that at any given time there are tens of thousands of people who have been diagnosed with epilepsy, but do not have, or have not yet achieved seizure control.

Epilepsy Durham Region is hosting an upcoming event that focuses on the role medical cannabis may play in the treatment of the disease.

On March 3, the organization hosts Epilepsy Awareness Month, its annual general meeting and volunteer recognition celebration.

Dr. Evan Cole, a pediatric epileptologist will serve as the expert guest speaker.

Exchanging ideas and connecting audience members with one another and [Dr. Cole], provides an opportunity to learn and discuss challenges, says CEO Dianne McKenzie. The goal of our Epilepsy Lecture Series is to provide the information needed to live well with epilepsy, and to make the vital connections needed to reduce isolation.

The Epilepsy Lecture Series and volunteer reception is open to anyone that is impacted by epilepsy, and will be held at the Whitby Public Library main branch at 405 Dundas St. W, room 1B, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
