Cardiologist Joins Carle Richland Memorial Hospital

Cardiology services are now available full-time at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney with the addition of a new, full-time Cardiologist. Dr. Prem Ghai with the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute began his practice this month in the new Cardiology Clinic, which is located on the first floor of the hospital near the gazebo garden entrance on the West side of the campus. Dr. Ghai is making his home in Olney and looks forward to expanding access to care for people with heart conditions. Sometimes in rural areas people dont always go to the doctor when they need to, because they have to travel out of town for certain specialty care, Dr. Ghai said. I want to improve on that by providing a full range of services for them closer to home. With more than twentyfive years of experience as a Cardiologist, Dr. Ghai provides a full range of services. He is Board Certified in both Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. In addition to clinic hours, Dr. Ghai provides consultations for hospital inpatients and Emergency Department patients. He also offers a variety of noninvasive procedures to diagnose heart conditions. In many cases, we will be able to provide the services you need right here, but if it is something we cant do we will make sure you are transferred to a facility that can provide that care, Dr. Ghai explained. Dr. Ghai says he is excited about the opportunity focus all of his attention on patient care as part of a hospital-owned practice. Previously, he was in private practice, which placed other demands on his time with regard to operations. I just want to be here to serve the community, said Dr. Ghai, adding that it is important to him to treat his patients with the same respect and dignity as if they were his own family. Dr. Ghai complete undergraduate studies (cum laude) in Biology at McMaster University Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Torino in Torino, Italy. He subsequently completed Residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Cardiology at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York. He attained further training in Nuclear Cardiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiologists and the American College of Physicians. Appointments or referrals can be made by contacting the Cardiology Clinic at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. (618) 392-1139.
