Heart Disease (Cardiovascular Disease) involves blocked or narrowed blood vessels that may lead to a heart attack, chest pain, stroke, and infections.

These various diseases could include:

Heart rhythm problems (cardiac arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate your heartbeats dont function properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly.

These fluttering or racing heart issues may be harmless, however some heart arrhythmias may be dangerous or life threatening. Heart arrhythmia treatment can often control or eliminate fast or irregular heartbeats, and can be prevented in many cases through healthy lifestyle choices and reduced stress.

If you are experiencing any potential cardiology related issues, contact Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute in Fairfax, VA today at 703-560-1075. We look forward to helping you live a healthy and fulfilling life without being controlled by heart conditions.

At Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute, we use a variety of tests to produce different types of information of the heart. This will give your doctor important information about your risk for cardiac disease. Our testing facilities are accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL), and the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).

Below you will find a list of cardiac tests described in detail, to help you understand what to expect if you are going to have one of these procedures.

An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. An EKG shows the hearts electrical activity as line tracings on paper.

Often referred to as a cardiac echo or simply an echo, is a sonogram of the heart. (It is not abbreviated as ECG, an abbreviation for an electrocardiogram.) Uses standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart.

A nuclear exercise stress test is a diagnostic testused to evaluate blood flow to the heart. During the test,a small amount of radioactive tracer is injected into a vein. A special camera, called a gamma camera, detects the radiation released by the tracer to produce computer images of the heart.

Uses an injection of iodine-rich contrast material and CT scanning to help diagnose and evaluate blood vessel disease or related conditions, such as aneurysms or blockages.

Aprocedure that allows the cardiologist to get direct information about the blood pressures and patterns of blood flow within your heart.

Holter and event monitors are similar to an EKG(electrocardiogram). An EKG is a simple test that detects and records the hearts electrical activity. Its a common test for diagnosing heart rhythm problems.

After going through the diagnostic evaluations, we will customize the right treatment specifically for you depending on the severity of your condition. Recommended treatments may include one or a combination of the following:

Medication

Healthy lifestyle programs:

Catheter-assisted and surgical procedures:

In some cases, patients may require some form of invasive surgery to improve their condition. In so doing, one or more of the following may be recommended to open blocked arteries:
