The Department of Cardiology provides a wide range of cardiac diagnostic services for all age groups ranging from neonates to geriatrics.

Primary care physicians or Cardiologists may refer patients to the Department of Cardiology for diagnostic testing. Please familiarize yourself with the procedures and tests available. Primary care physicians should consult a staff cardiologist if they require more information on the utilization of a procedure for a particular patient.

All orders for cardiology tests must be in writing. For in-patients and patients in the outpatient offsites, the unit clerks will enter these orders into the hospital computer system. Arrangements for scheduling an outpatient from an offsite must be made by calling (718) 226-9490, MondayFriday between 8am - 4pm.

I.V. access to patients is preferred prior to sending patients for thallium scans. Patients scheduled to these types of scans should be NPO from midnight the night before the testing.

The radiographic/photographic report of a thallium scan is available through radiology. The cardiological portion of the test is available from the Department of Cardiology.

In order to obtain patient results the physician may go into Result Inquiry (RI) in the hospital's computerized ordering system. Results on a particular patient can be obtained by using either the patient's medical record number, account number or the or der number of the procedure. If unable to access results or there are any questions call (718) 226-9490.
