More good news for Greys Anatomy fans as original cast members Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Sara Ramirez sign on for two more seasons. Although Greys Anatomy hasnt officially been picked up for any additional seasons, ABC has been hard at work re-negotiating contracts with the stars of the series. After the announcement that fan favorite Sandra Oh would be leaving after season 10, many worried others would follow suit. However, according to TV Line the rest of the original cast has signed contracts for season 11 and 12. This includes: Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Sara Ramirez (who actually joined the series in season 2). This comes after news that ABC has decided not to renew contracts with newcomers Tessa Ferrer (who plays Leah) and Gaius Charles (who plays Shane) for season 11. Two other original cast members, Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, signed similar two year contracts back in January. Caterina Scorsone and Patrick Dempsey With Sandra Oh leaving Grey's Anatomy, the new vacancy at Grey Sloan could be quickly filled by Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone). Exclusive: Private Practice's Caterina Scorsone returning to Grey's Anatomy Derek's lil sis returned last week to test out what family life is like now that James (Matt Long) has proposed to her.Unfortunately, Amelia's babysitting experiment ended with disastrous results, as she realized that being a stay-at-home mom isn't nearly as easy as it appears, and she decides to stay in Seattle for the foreseeable future. "She's going to be hanging out in Seattle at least until the end of the season and grappling with questions both personal and professional," Scorsone tells TVGuide.com. Naturally, James will be pretty miffed about his new fiance running away, especially when she starts to see Seattle as a permanent solution. One of the moments Grey's Anatomy fans have been dreading all season finally happened during Thursday's episode: The discovery of how Cristina Yang will be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial for good. When Dr. Russell, the head of cardiology, decides to leave the hospital because no one from Grey Sloan will ever win a Harper Avery Award, the board asks Yang to appeal her loss so they can set a precedent. She avoids the subject by flying off to Zurich to give a talk about 3D printing portal veins at a hospital where her ex Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington) works. It turns out he was the one who invited her to speak at his hospital. Reuniting with Burke for the first time since their failed wedding, Burke asks Cristina to stick around to see how hi-tech his hospital is. The 49 3D printers he has would certainly help with Cristina's plans to someday print an actual heart.
