While we typically think of the back as that region from the shoulders to the waist, the strict anatomical description extends from the base of the skull to the tailbone (coccyx named for its resemblance to a cuckoos beak). In effect, the back includes the entire length of the backbone (vertebral column). The vertebral column consists of 33 individual bones (vertebrae) stacked upon one another. The bump one can feel at the lower, back part of the neck when bending the head forward is a part (the spinous process) of one of these vertebrae (the 7th cervical vertebra). The individual vertebra differ in size and shape throughout the vertebral coulumn. At the lower (lumbar) region, the vertebrae are more massive as they are required to support greater loads versus that of the upper (cervical) region. With the exception of the lower nine vertebrae, which are fused together to form the sacrum and coccyx, these vertebrae are neither directly joined nor contiguous. So resident host John Salley asked Sundy about involving Draya Micheles son in their argument in Palm Springs. Sundy said she was sorry she involved the little boy but Brandi called Bullshit. Sundy started yelling back that it wasnt bullshit. John goofed off with the two screaming costars but Brandi had enough and pushed his hand away from her. No! Brandis all, youre a fraud, Sundy because you talked about my kid too. Brandi screams, youre trash! These ladies are like, oh lawd, whats gonna go down? Sundy says nah, she didnt. She continues to antagonize Brandi, You mad. You jealous. Because you cant do what I do. Then she pops out her seat and Brandi follows suit and John has to put himself in between the ladies. For fledgling medical students, slicing into their first cadaver can be an important rite of passage. They often enter the anatomy lab as skittish new trainees and leave it as self-assured future physicians, having spent weeks or months digging fingers-first into the secrets of the human body. That, at least, is the view of Benjamin Rosser, the head of Saskatchewans only anatomy lab, a place that is now at the centre of a debate about whether all medical students not just future surgeons or specialists should still have to perform traditional dissections before they become MDs. About half of Canadas medical schools have already traded complete dissections for a combination of pre-cut body parts and new imaging technologies that offer a faster route to teaching basic anatomy. Speed is of the essence because, as medical knowledge expands, some schools are finding it difficult to squeeze a complete dissection into undergraduates jam-packed schedules. The University of Saskatchewans College of Medicine decided earlier this year to phase out full dissections from the core curriculum for undergraduates, a move the school made as it prepares to build a new $3.85-million human structures laboratory that is expected to open in 2016 or 2017.
