Anatomy of the Steelers drafts: Daniel McCullers – Steel City Underground (blog)

Posted: Published on April 12th, 2017

Anatomy of the Steelers drafts is an ongoing series leading up to the NFL Draft which examines the successes and failures of past Pittsburghdraft choices. Todays article focuses on the Steelers 2014 sixth round draft pick, Daniel McCullers. Easily one of the largest athletes during his time in college, and also now in the pros, McCullers has been playfully called many nicknames, including Big Dan and Shade Tree. The Steelers made waves by selecting the massive defensive tackle, and four-year starter with the Volunteers, in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. McCullers NFL.com Draft Profile is intriguing to look back on: A big-boned, short-area plugger with some underachiever traits, McCullers has raw tools that could become special if he learns to harness the innate strength in his body and pairs with a DL coach who can refine his mechanics. But thats not what stands out the most: NFL.com listed McCullers as a projected second/third round pick. Landing him several rounds later was a tremendous value, of course depending on where the Steelers had him on their own draft board. The need was a great one. The Steelers were still attempting to replace several outstanding defensive linemen. Defensive end … Continue reading

Anatomy of a Goal: Nemanja Nikolic's Game Winner – Massive Report

Posted: Published on April 11th, 2017

Welcome to Anatomy of a Goal, where each week we dissect one goal (or near goal) from the previous weeks Columbus Crew SC match. For Week Six of the 2017 MLS Season, we take a look at Nemanja Nikolics 22nd minute one-timer that gave the Chicago Fire its only goal in a 1-0 win over Crew-SC on Saturday. Heres a look at the finish from the Fire striker. Columbus started this match in a new formation: A 4-3-3 with three central midfielders. Without the dynamic wide play of Harrison Afful, Crew SC defended much more narrowly than usual, here providing very little pressure on the Chicago offense. Crew SC midfielder Wil Trapp and right back Hector Jimenez had just broken up a Bastian Schweinsteiger led attack. Keep note of the (many) players highlighted. The movement and positioning of these players lead to the Fires game winner. Here, Schweinsteigers pass to Fire winger David Accam is headed back to midfield by Hector Jimenez. Immediately after this ball is played back, and picked up by Fire center-back Joao Meira. All of Chicagos players are in the Black & Gold half. As soon as Meira picks up the ball, Accam heads out into … Continue reading

Capcom Shares A Look At The Over 20-Year-Old Anatomy Guide Used By Street Fighter Artists – Siliconera

Posted: Published on April 10th, 2017

By Casey . April 9, 2017 . 5:30pm Capcom has recently shared a look at a very integral anatomy guide that was created and has been used by the Street Fighter team for over 20 years. During this years GDC, Capcom art director Toshiyuki Kamei referenced the guide, which had been compiled back in the mid-90s and edited by former Capcom artist Akira Yasuda. Since then, the guide has been used to teach other artists at Capcom how to recreate characters that are visually consistent with the games. Kamei went on to note the guides age, saying its a pretty old document, but that is still very valuable to them. You can check out a few excerpts from the guide below, and find more from it at Capcoms Japanese blog. Video game stories from other sites on the web. These links leave Siliconera. REVIEW | 'A GAMBLER'S ANATOMY' – The Gazette: Eastern Iowa Breaking News and Headlines

Posted: Published on April 9th, 2017

By By Rob Cline, correspondent Apr 8, 2017 at 12:37 pm | Print View Jonathan Lethems newest novel, A Gamblers Anatomy, is filled with masks both literal and metaphorical. Alexander Bruno, a professional backgammon play who makes his living defeating rich dilettantes, hits a catastrophic losing streak at the same time a blot begins to obscure his vision. The book follows Brunos seemingly ever more humiliating adventures, which lead to his face and his life being wholly remade. Throughout the book, masks play an important role as characters including Bruno disguise themselves voluntarily or under duress. Lethem highlights the ways in which we are unknowable to each other and to ourselves, even when we try to strip all of our masks away. Lethem, whose enthusiasm for the works of sci-fi author Philip K. Dick is well known, offers the reader the kind of mystery one might find in one of Dicks novels. Bruno may or may not be psychic. The blot and the growth responsible for it may or may not be dampening his abilities. A Gamblers Anatomy also is infused with the kind of paranoia (which may not be paranoia at all) that might be found in a Thomas … Continue reading

Anatomy of a Play: The Day Bryce Petty Almost Died – The Phinsider

Posted: Published on April 9th, 2017

On the 1st play of the 4th quarter in the Week 15 match-up between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, Bryce Petty fell victim to a snap count miscommunication and it nearly cost him his life. After Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suhs impact, I fully expected to see Pettys intestines randomly scattered across the NFL logo on the field. Winning 34-10, MetLife Stadium had already been taken over by a sea of aqua and orange. This play made me cringe and I was sitting in the nosebleeds. A collective ooh, with accompanying facial twitch, overcame the crowd to empathize with the pain - it must have felt like getting hit by Mike Tyson in Mike Tysons Punch-Out and a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick at the same time. Ryan Fitzpatrick came out and put up a whopping 17.1 QB rating for the rest of the game and the rest was history. Dolphins win. But wow, this play was almost as bad as Mark Sanchez using his face to wipe Brandon Moores butt. Lawyer: Mr. SUTTON, what did you witness Saturday night at MetLife Stadium? Me: I witnessed Mr. Suh and Mr. Wake kill Mr. Petty. I also saw the Jets … Continue reading
