Cardiology Did you know Marion General Hospital offers expert interventional cardiac care close to home? The same level of care and expertise offered in bigger cities at larger hospitals is available in Marion. Now, you can be close to your family and friends and avoid the problems associated with traveling out of town. Our cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, registered nurses and registered radiology technicians perform the following procedures: A cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a flexible tube into the coronary arteries. Dye is injected through the tube to illuminate the arteries under x-ray to show narrowing or blockage of the arteries. The procedure usually takes less than one hour and requires 1-4 hours of bed rest afterwards. To date, MGH and its staff have performed over 4,000 of these procedures. If a cardiac catheterization shows a narrowing or blockage, coronary angioplasty and stent placement may be able to open the artery. These procedures are often done right after the cardiac cath. Both procedures use catheters similar to the ones used for the cardiac cath. Angioplasty uses a balloon-tipped catheter to inflate and widen the artery.A stent is used to hold open an artery that has been widened by angioplasty and requires … Continue reading

Cardiology – Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center

Posted: Published on October 19th, 2015

PVSEC's cardiology department provides specialty care, diagnostics, and management of all cardiac diseases in dogs and cats. In addition, the cardiology department works side by side with all the other specialty departments in helping to manage any cardiac complications that may arise as a result of non-cardiac diseases. We strongly encourage that all clinical information, such as recent radiographs, blood work, and recent medical history - including current medications and doses - be provided at or prior to the time of the appointment to expedite the diagnostic process. When complete referral information is provided, echocardiograms may be performed by the cardiologist during the appointment to allow clients to wait for completion of diagnostics. Because echocardiography is a dynamic study and image quality is operator dependent, the cardiology service is not able to interpret studies performed by other clinicians. With the exception of echocardiography, diagnostic tests are not repeated unless the patient's condition has recently changed or repeat tests are otherwise necessary to provide the best medical care possible. With the June 2014 addition to the second floor of PVSEC's hospital, the cardiology department now has more space dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in dogs and cats. … Continue reading

Cardiology is the study of cardiovascular illness, the care of all things related to the heart. It is a specialization amongst physicians. Cardiology also includes arteries and it used to diagnose and treat conditions like blockages. Cardiologists should not be confused with cardiac surgeons. Cardiac surgeons go into the chest and perform heart surgeries, while cardiologists perform tests and procedures like angioplasty. Cardiology is the discipline that researches, diagnoses and treats heart injuries and diseases as well as their causes. A cardiologist will treat your heart problem while staying aware of other conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and other factors that risk damaging the heart. Some of these risk factors include a family history of heart disease, obesity, cigarette smoking, poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. Since cardiology is a specialized field of medicine, you should not necessarily rely on your regular healthcare provider to care for your heart. In fact, he or she may well be able to deal with minor problems, but will usually refer you to a specialist if the symptoms appear to be serious. In other instances, your physician may simply consult with a cardiology specialist in order to determine the best course … Continue reading
