Coronary heart disease and heart failure continue to be significant burdens to healthcare systems in the Western world. In the United States alone, there are 7.1 million survivors of myocardial infarction (MI) and 4.9 million people living with congestive heart failure (CHF).1 Despite recent advances in medical and device therapy for heart failure, the incidence, hospitalization, and mortality rates continue to rise. After receiving a diagnosis of CHF, 1 in 5 patients will be dead within 12 months.1 Therefore, any new treatment modality that benefits heart failure patients has the potential to result in a dramatic improvement in health outcomes and substantial cost savings for the community. The possibility of using stem cellbased therapies for people suffering an acute MI or living with CHF has captured the imagination of both the medical and popular communities. Since early reports in animal models >10 years ago,2,3 the stem cell field has made enormous advances in moving toward clinically applicable treatment options, and we now stand at the dawn of a new therapeutic era. An abundance of preclinical data demonstrate safety, feasibility, and efficacy, justifying the current entry into clinical trials of stem cell therapy in humans.48 This position, however, is extremely controversial, … Continue reading

A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) occurs when a bump, blow, or jolt to the head causes injury to the brain. Falls, sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and violence are common causes of TBI. We are seeking individuals who have had Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to participate in current and future research studies for the treatment of TBI. We are currently seeking participants in a clinical trial of modified stem cell therapy for TBI called STEMTRA (STEM cell therapy for TRAumatic brain injury). Interested participants will complete a questionnaire for a TBI research participant recruitment registry. The information in the registry will be used to identify potential participants for STEMTRA and future clinical research studies. Stem cells are cells that have the potential to develop into different types of cells within the body. Th STEMTRA Study is investigating whether adult bone-marrow-derived stem cells improve function after TBI. A clinical trial is a research study designed to assess the safety or efficacy of a treatment or intervention. A participant recruitment registry is a listing of people who are interested in participating in research studies. Read more: Stem Cell Therapy for TBI | Study Eligibility ... … Continue reading

Our integrative staff has been using regenerative therapy for almost 2 decades. Using regenerative injection treatments such as Stem Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Prolotherapy and Prolozone Injections we are able to fix the root cause of many orthopedic problems. Whether its to repair damage to cartilage such as in osteoarthitis of the knee, hip or shoulder or tightening or healing damages muscles and tendons such as rotator cuff tear and chronic spinal pain we are on the forefront of the most current methods in non surgical orthopedic regenerative therapy. Conventional medical treatment for neurological degenerative diseases makes no attempt to regenerate the damaged cells of diseased organs and tissues. Cell therapy, on the other hand, by stimulating regeneration, has the potential to restore function to injured, diseased, and debilitated neuronal. Using functional neurology, stem cell specific nutrition and specific neuronal stem cells Advanced Rejuvenation is finding great success with our brain based programs. Use your own stem cells to repair damage from lung disease.Since the lungs are one of our most vonerable organs when our regenerative capacity declines many will suffer COPD and other lung diseases as they age. Stem cells therapy can have a strong regenerative affected in … Continue reading

Cell therapy could slow decline in heart failure patients …

Posted: Published on April 6th, 2016

But that means about 2.5 million Americans live with heart failure that blocks blood vessels and reduces blood supply to the body. A new study provides an early indication that cell therapy using cells from bone marrow could one day help treat heart failure. Researchers gave 60 patients with heart failure an injection of the therapy in the heart and compared their rates of death and heart problems to those of 66 similar patients who received a placebo injection of saltwater in the heart. The researchers found that, during the year following the treatment, the patients who received the cell therapy had a 37% lower rate of death and hospitalization for heart failure-related problems, such as fluid buildup in the body or shortness of breath, compared with the placebo group. In the cell therapy group, 3.4% of the patients died and 51.7% were hospitalized for heart problems, whereas 13.7% of the placebo group died and 82.4% were hospitalized. In the year after the injection, 20.3% of the patients in the cell therapy group experienced an adverse event such as infection or stroke, compared with 41.8% of the placebo group. "It was surprising that the (placebo) patients did significantly worse," Patel … Continue reading

Adoptive T Cell Therapy | Tumor Vaccine Group

Posted: Published on March 31st, 2016

Adoptive T cell therapy involves the isolation and ex vivo expansion of tumor specific T cells to achieve greater number of T cells than what could be obtained by vaccination alone. The tumor specific T cells are then infused into patients with cancer in an attempt to give their immune system the ability to overwhelm remaining tumor via T cells which can attack and kill cancer. There are many forms of adoptive T cell therapy being used for cancer treatment; culturing tumor infiltrating lymphocytes or TIL, isolating and expanding one particular T cell or clone, and even using T cells that have been engineered to potently recognize and attack tumors. Our approach has been to utilize T cells taken directly from the patients blood after they have received a cancer vaccine. We have found by priming rare tumor antigen specific T cells first, with active immunization, we are much more able to expand those T cells in the laboratory to greater numbers for therapeutic infusion. A unique aspect to our approach for adoptive T cell therapy is the use of tumor specific CD4+ Th1 cells which may enhance anti-tumor efficacy. Adoptive T cell therapy strategies have largely focused on the … Continue reading

Stem Cell Therapy | Stanford Initiative to Cure Hearing Loss

Posted: Published on March 31st, 2016

What if doctors could grow a new working inner ear from a persons own skin cells? Or repair the damaged inner ear from within? Solving this profound mystery is the driving force behind stem cell research and the promise of tissue engineering in otolaryngology. While hearing aids and cochlear implants can provide good recovery of hearing function, the development of a biological method to repair the damaged cochlea has the potential to restore normal hearing without any type of prosthesis. One approach to restore hearing might be to surgically place stem cells within the cochlea in such a way that they would fuse with the remaining cochlear structures and develop and function as hair cells. Scientists believe this is a viable approach because, unlike most organs that are destroyed by disease, the inner ear remains structurally intactonly the hair cells are lost. By mimicking the steps involved in the formation of embryonic mouse ears, Stanford scientists have produced stem cells in the laboratory that look and act very much like hair cells, the sensory cells that normally reside in the inner ear. If they can generate hair cells in the millions, it could lead to significant scientific and clinical advances … Continue reading

Frequently Asked Questions: Cell Therapy and Regenerative …

Posted: Published on March 31st, 2016

Adult (Somatic) stem cells are unspecialized cells that are found in different parts of the body and, depending on the source tissue, have different properties. Adult stem cells are capable of self-renewal and give rise to daughter cells that are specialized to form the cell types found in the original body part. Adult stem cells are multipotent, meaning that they appear to be limited in the cell types that they can produce based on current evidence. However, recent scientific studies suggest that adult stem cells may have more plasticity than originally thought. Stem cell plasticity is the ability of a stem cell from one tissue to generate the specialized cell type(s) of another tissue. For example, bone marrow stromal cells are known to give rise to bone cells, cartilage cells, fat cells and other types of connective tissue (which is expected), but they may also differentiate into cardiac muscle cells and skeletal muscle cells (this was not initially thought possible). Hematopoietic stem cells that give rise to all blood and immune cells are today the most understood of the adult stem cells. Hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow have been providing lifesaving cures for leukemia and other blood disorders for … Continue reading
