Public release date: 16-Jan-2013 [ | E-mail | Share ] Contact: Holly Auer holly.auer@uphs.upenn.edu 215-349-5659 University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine PHILADELPHIA -- In the first study to examine discussion of drug side effects on Internet message boards, researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania found that breast cancer survivors taking the commonly prescribed adjuvant therapy known as aromatase inhibitors (AIs) often detailed in these forums troublesome symptoms resulting from the drugs, and they were apt to report discontinuing the treatment or switching to a different drug in the same class. The findings are published online this week in the journal Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety. With 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States today the largest group of cancer survivors researchers say the findings have broad implications for physician communication with patients about these issues to help to promote proper adherence and inform patient-to-patient discussion online. "Both the availability and anonymity provided by message boards and increasingly, other forms of social media such as Twitter and Facebook offer patients a place to voice concerns and connect with an audience of peers in similar situations. This type of social support can be very … Continue reading

Former DHS Head Gave Warning About Mass Murder Pills – Video

Former DHS Head Gave Warning About Mass Murder Pills For the first time ever, and for a brief moment in time, two knowledgeable and highly credentialed public figures have commented on the fact that psychiatric medications cause violence and must be considered suspect in the case of the Newtown shooter. But then, as if it never happened, and as if psychiatric drugs could not possibly be implicated in violence, the issue was dropped by the media. Fortunately I happened to be watching television on both CNN and Fox Cable News shortly after the Newton tragedy and I have put the TV clips onto YouTube. The most striking commentary came from Sanjay Gupta, neurosurgeon and famous chief medical correspondent on CNN. On December 18, 2012 at approximately 5:25 pm on CNN, he offered the following remarks: We still don't know much about the shooter who lived in this home. But there is something else to consider: What medications if any he was on? I'm specifically talking about antidepressants. If you look at the studies of other shootings like this that have happened, medications like this were a common factor. Now I want to be clear I'm not saying … Continue reading

Visit http://www.DrugRisk.com New York, NY (PRWEB) January 16, 2013 The goal of DrugRisk is to improve patient safety by informing the public of the latest drug warnings, recalls, studies and litigation news. With Mirena, patients experiencing side effects may not know that others have had similar complications, or that many have now filed claims for their injuries, explains DrugRisk representative Ryan Mayer. The resource center previously advised that, in 2009, the FDA warned Bayer about the marketing of Mirena, which failed to disclose safety risks while claiming the devices could help busy moms with intimacy and make them look and feel great.* Now, DrugRisk has learned that the FDA has received over 45,000 AERS reports of women suffering complications while using the Mirena IUD. Of these, 5079 involved dislocation and 1421 involved migration of the devices, which can perforate or damage the uterine wall.** In more than 6% of cases, patients required hospitalization or surgery. On November 30th, a woman filed a lawsuit against Bayer, the maker of Mirena, claiming she suffered severe injury and had to undergo surgery … Continue reading

Side Effect's of Armstrong's Doping Admission

Posted: Published on January 16th, 2013

After years of denial, cyclist Lance Armstrong admitted to using performance enhancing substances during a taped interview with Oprah Winfrey on Monday night. The side effects of using the drugsreach far beyond Armstrong's damaged career. He's more than just a cyclist.Lance Armstrong's Tour De France wins after battling cancer were an inspiration. But Jeff Wentworth of JB Cycle and Sport has been suspicious for a while now. "To win seven tours, especially after cancer, we kind of thought he might have been enhanced." The news of Armstrong's admission to using performance enhancing substances could be damaging to an aspiring athlete, but House of Speed's trainer Scotty Smith says his young athletes aren't fazed. "I don't think our kids feel that disappointment, because they're growing up in a society where this is part of the norm for them." In fact, just this past year Packers lineman Mike Neal and a handful of otherNFL players have been suspended for using items on theNFL's banned substance list. "Doping" has become so common, that's how Armstrong's supporters defend him. "Since everyone else was doping, they were all on the same playing field. So, he did it not to win but to stay even and … Continue reading

New York, New York (PRWEB) January 15, 2013 An Alabama Supreme Court ruling could pave the way for individuals allegedly injured by generic versions of popular medications such as Fosamax, Accutane, Darvocet and others to pursue generic drugs lawsuits against brand name drug makers, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. The drug, used to manage dyslipidemia (high levels of cholesterol and fat in the blood), is not approved in the U.S. and the company is about to suspend the worldwide availability of it completely. These measures come following the HPS2-THRIVE (Heart Protection Study 2-Treatment of HDL to Reduce the Incidence of Vascular Events) study, the results of which indicate that the drug is not nearly as effective as previously thought. The drug was found to be associated with a number of serious adverse events. This comes as conclusive evidence to dismiss previous research that claimed the drug could be used as a possible approach of treating patients with dyslipidaemia. The company has already started notifying regulatory bodies in countries where the drug is still available to ensure that health care providers cease the availability of the drug.
