The number of single women opting to make their dreams of motherhood a reality using IVF has doubled, with 632 women choosing to go it alone in 2012 compared to just 259 in 2007. Donor insemination has also become a popular option, with 468 women choosing that route to motherhood in 2012 according to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority [HFEA]. The Lecture distinguishes between sexual reproduction sexual intercourse and describes In Vitro Fertilization. The Lecture then compares contrasts Spermatogenesis with Oogenesis. The Lecture then begins a description of Human Embryology, including fertilization, the development of the Zygote into a Blastocyst implantation during the 1st Week, formation of the Placenta the Embryonic Disk during the 2nd Week.
