Love-split lesbians fight custody battle over twins, 5, with THREE mothers

Lesbian couple engaged in 'informal' sperm and egg donor arrangement Twin girls now have birth mother, an adoptive mother, a biological mother and an anonymous father Case described by Christian Medical Fellowship as a 'disturbing harbinger' By Louise Eccles Published: 19:27 EST, 2 May 2014 | Updated: 09:57 EST, 3 May 2014 346 shares 52 View comments Lady Justice Black, pictured, described the case as 'very sad' while sitting in the court of appeal Twin five-year-old girls who effectively have three mothers are at the centre of a fierce custody battle between the two lesbians who brought them into the world. The children live with their birth mother but were conceived from eggs donated by her ex-partner and later adopted by her current partner. Under the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008, the egg donor has no legal status as a parent. Letters to the editor 5/1/14

Abortion debate needs scientific fact check I am writing in response to Taylor Rubles letter published on Thursday addressing the abortion debate last month. As someone who organized and attended the debate, I would like to take this opportunity to correct some misconceptions about the arguments that were made in the debate. In the debate, Seth Drayer argued from the science of embryology that the pre-born child is biologically a member of the human family, only distinct from born persons in the areas of size, level of development, and degree of dependency. He argued that none of these distinctions disqualify someone from human rights. For example, a toddler is much smaller, less developed, and significantly more dependent on others for survival than the average college student. Yet this does not make them less valuable. In contrast, Professor Webbs main argument was the shocking assertion that universal human rights do not exist, and therefore only the mothers preference matters. He even went so far as to argue that sex trafficking does not violate human rights, and is justifiable in some cultures. Ruble argued against Professor Webbs assertion that the pre-born child is not a conscious being. I would argue whether someone … Continue reading

Warning: Senate Races Aren’t as Close as They Appear

Posted: Published on April 29th, 2014

By Stuart Rothenberg Posted at 5 a.m. April 29 Nunn is running for the open Senate seat in Georgia. (Bill Clark/CQ Roll Call File Photo) Ive noticed with some alarm how many people fail to make reasonable distinctions among races that admittedly have some factors in common. So let me make an important distinction: While Democratic Senate candidates Alison Lundergan Grimes, 35, and Michelle Nunn, 47, have difficult races ahead of them in Kentucky and Georgia, each has a path to victory. Conversely, I dont currently see a path for West Virginia Democrat Natalie Tennant, 46. Grimes likely general-election opponent, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 72, has been in Congress for 30 years. Hes part of his partys leadership and his personal poll numbers are mediocre, at best. Grimes offers an obvious contrast on many levels to McConnell, and she has the resources to mount a formidable campaign. Of course, there are many hurdles ahead of her, but they dont negate her assets and opportunity. Nunn has a terrific name in the Peach State and in Washington, D.C. Her father was (and is) a highly regarded pragmatic Democrat, and her association with the Bush family through her connection with the … Continue reading
