Increase in Convenient Treatment Options Drives the Testosterone Replacement Therapy Market, According to New Report …

Posted: Published on October 23rd, 2013

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2013 Follow us on LinkedIn - The market for Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) has been witnessing healthy growth over the last decade. The introduction of topical gel formulations at the turn of the century has been a significant milestone in the evolution of the TRT market. In subsequent years, manufacturers launched several gel based products with varying efficacy levels. Being a condition usually associated with aging, the aging world population is benefiting the TRT market. Although prevalence rates remain high, a very small share of the addressable market is presently being served. This presents tremendous untapped potential for further growth in the market, as awareness and product choices improve. Although prospects for topical gels and solutions appear bright, injectables have been witnessing a rise in adoption over the recent years. With new injectables and oral formulations in pipeline, the TRT market is likely to witness a trend towards more convenient and efficacious therapies. Awareness and diagnosis remain critical to the future of the market. Given the stigma attached to hormone therapy, significant marketing activity is required to raise awareness and improve sales of TRT products. Aggressive marketing campaigns by pharmaceutical companies as well as … Continue reading

by Cornelius Swart, KGW.com Staff kgw.com Posted on October 22, 2013 at 5:07 PM Updated today at 5:59 AM PORTLAND-- The US Supreme Court ruled Monday that a case between a West Linn woman and Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk A/S will have to go trial. Suzanne Lukas-Werner claimed she got breast cancer in 2009 after using the Novo Nordisk hormone replacement therapy drug known as Activella for six years. She said she underwent a mastectomy of her right breast and three lymph nodes were removed. She went through several treatments of radiation and chemotherapy. Lukas-Werner filed a claim against Novo Nordisk and her Lake Oswego doctor in September 2010. She made a public statement to the press on Tuesday. "We've been kind of under attack with Novo Nordisk, said Lukas-Werner. We're the David versus the Goliath and Im surprised we've gotten this far. I was very surprised by the supreme court verdict. I'm very grateful." According to Law360, Novo Nordisk had tried to assert that an Oregon court had no jurisdiction over the drugmaker. Tuesday's ruling means the company will have to open its records to Lukas-Werner's attorneys and that the case is clear to go before a Multnomah … Continue reading

Dr. Zorba Paster: Hormone replacement might be worth risk

Posted: Published on October 16th, 2013

Back in the 1990s, we invited every woman of menopause age to take hormone replacement therapy (HRT), as it gave promise of a longer, sweeter life. We thought there would be fewer heart attacks (we were wrong), fewer blood clots (wrong again) and fewer strokes (strike three, were out). The monumental Heart and Estrogen/Progestin Replacement Study (HERS) showed that when we thought we were helping we were actually hurting. This resulted in a dramatic drop in the use of estrogen-containing products. But now the question is how to help a woman who has intolerable menopause symptoms. A so-called natural cure using the herb black cohosh has been a bust well-controlled scientific studies have not shown its worthwhile, even though the supplement producers disagree. Anti-depressants offer some relief, but its minimal. When I was a medical student, believe it or not, valium was considered to be a viable treatment. The dose I was taught was 10 milligrams of valium four times daily thats enough to keep a race horse from complaining. The fact of the matter is HRT still has its place. For some women it might be used for just a few months and for others a couple of years. … Continue reading

Is Hormone Replacement Therapy Right for You?

Posted: Published on October 16th, 2013

By Paula Spencer Scott WebMD Feature Treatments for menopause symptoms have come and gone. Once, hormone therapy was the second most prescribed drug in the U.S. Then in 2002, a major study found problems and doctors backed off prescribing it. Now you hear a lot about both hormonal and nonhormonal treatments for menopause, including bioidentical hormones. What's right for you? Hormone therapy involves taking estrogen plus, in most cases progestin. Progestin helps lower the risk of getting endometrial cancer from taking estrogen. Women without a uterus usually get just estrogen. Too Young for Menopause When she was 26, Lara Dietz learned she had breast cancer -- a shock to this mother of two very young children. Then came the second blow. When treatment began, so did premature menopause. "I was having hot flashes," she says. "I felt like I was 55 years old." When menopause occurs between ages 45 to 55, it is considered "natural." When it occurs before age 40 -- regardless the cause -- it is called premature menopause. The ovaries no longer produce an egg each month, so monthly menstrual cycles... Read the Too Young for Menopause article > > Hormones are given in different ways and … Continue reading

Some pluses among negatives of Hormone Replacement Therapy

Posted: Published on October 10th, 2013

BY DR. LAURA BERMAN drberman@bermancenter.com October 9, 2013 4:54PM Hormone replacement therapy was first used in the early 1960s. Since then millions of women have undergone HRT to help alleviate menopausal symptoms hot flashes, low libido, weight gain and depression. The treatment helps to replace hormones such as estrogen, progestin and testosterone that naturally decrease during menopause. Although many women report symptom relief as a result of hormone replacement therapy, the procedure can come with risks. In 2002, the Womens Health Initiative of the National Institutes of Health released findings that linked HRT with an increased incidence of breast cancer, heart attack and stroke. Now, the Womens Health Initiative has released more findings from another long-term study on HRT and its associated risks. Their findings again showed that hormone replacement therapy often poses more risks than benefits, particularly for those women who have a family history of breast cancer, stroke and heart disease. However, the findings werent all negative. The study showed that HRT risks are lowest for women who receive the treatment during early menopause, and that women who greatly suffer from debilitating menopausal side effects might experience an improved quality of life that could be worth the risks … Continue reading

Major study sheds light on HRT

Posted: Published on October 6th, 2013

(CNN) - For years women have been getting conflicting information about whether or not they should seek out hormone replacement therapy to help them with the symptoms of menopause. Now a new study may give women some clear answers. Scientists have just released the results of a major long term study on the safety of hormone replacement therapy or HRT for menopausal women. The bottom line is for most healthy women who have just entered menopause taking HRT short term to battle symptoms is probably OK. But don't take it long term in hopes that it will prevent diseases such as heart disease or cancer. Taking HRT when older poses more risks. Hormone replacement therapy is used to replace female hormones that are no longer produced after menopause. These drugs help prevent hot flashes and night sweats that can affect menopausal women. For decades, doctors thought HRT was also good for women's hearts. To test this, and other issues, scientists decided to conduct a large trial called the "Women's Health Initiative." But the HRT trial was suspended early because women were having serious health issues including higher risks for heart problems, breast cancer and stroke. For this new study, scientists … Continue reading
