Quit smoking for a better sex life – study

Posted: Published on May 22nd, 2013

A recent study is revealing that nicotine in cigarettes is detrimental to the male sexual organ. However, once men gave up smoking, they saw significant improvement in their sexual ability. According to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in the United States, there is a link between smoking and decreased sex drive. The study has shown that nicotine is the biggest reason for damaging veins, arteries, and blood vessels, including in the male sexual organ. The findings noted that acute vasospasm, contraction of the penile tissue and restricted blood flow to the penis are all the side effects of smoking. Cigarette smoking was also shown to lead to male infertility by reducing the quality of semen. "This has been well known for years and, in fact, has been part of the message we have been disseminating about the dangers of smoking. In fact, warnings of the effects of smoking on a man's sexual ability are now being put on cigarette boxes," Dr Knox Hagley, chairman of the Jamaica Coalition for Tobacco Control, told The Gleaner. Importantly, however, the British Journal of Urology International reported that researchers found that 31 per cent of the 65 sexually active male … Continue reading

Study: Genital Warts May Lead to Sexual Dysfunction; polyDNA Recommends Gene-Eden-VIR Against the Genital Warts Virus

Posted: Published on May 22nd, 2013

Rochester, NY (PRWEB) May 21, 2013 The journal, Sexually Transmitted Infections reported in 2008 that psychological effects of GWs (genital warts) have much greater impact on well-being than the physical effects; people with anogenital warts may display anxiety, depression, and sexual difficulties. (2) There are many reasons for sexual dysfunction. This, and other studies, have shown that having genital warts is one of these reasons. Another study published in JAMA noted that sexual dysfunction is characterized by disturbances in sexual desire and in the psychophysiological changes associated with the sexual response cycle, including arousal difficulties, erection problems, inability to reach orgasm, and not finding sex pleasurable.(3) Further, it can be proposed that men with GWs may have deteriorated sensation during sexual contact or a feeling of being less sexually attractive because of the localization of the disease. In fact, when some skin diseases such as erosive lichen planus, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis are located in the anogenital area, they are implicated to cause difficulties in sexual functioning. (Journal of Andrology, Jan. 2013) (4) You know, for most men, sex is extremely important. I can totally understand the anxiety some men feel when they first see their genital warts. I mean, … Continue reading

The low-down on erectile problems

Posted: Published on May 21st, 2013

I NEVER thought I would admit it in public, but I do have something in common with scientologists: a natural scepticism of (thankfully not their often venomous, bordering on violent antipathy towards) the psychiatric profession, and the antics of its members. It worries me that so many psychiatrists display an obsessive-compulsive need to medicalise perfectly normal human behaviour, to pathologise aspects of it and make it look like mental illness. Take delayed ejaculation. It is just one example not even the most egregious of this kind of behaviour by 'shrinks'. Delayed ejaculation has been described as probably the least studied and understood of the male sexual dysfunctions. That much, certainly, is true. Im not suggesting it isnt a serious problem that can and does aversely affect men and their partners, emotionally, but the incidence of erectile problems is rising (pun unintended) globally, including among young men. Its just nonsense, to my mind, to suggest that most of them are mentally ill. It is far more likely to be a function of increased stress levels, especially as global financial crises dig ever deeper. The plethora of terms psychiatrists have come up with to describe a delay or absence of male orgasm … Continue reading

Boy who manned up to the church

Missing, broken and incomplete: John Saunders as a schoolboy. He was abused in the Catholic school system. Photo: Michel O'Sullivan I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend By a campfire at a school retreat, a 10-year-old boy sings Fire and Rain, James Taylor's sad and sweet ballad of the times. It is 1972. The boy is John Saunders, the youngest of nine children from a Catholic family that loves to sing. Listening are schoolmates from Marist Brothers Primary, Mosman, and a lay teacher in whom John has found a friend, a man he has come to love and trust. It makes you question the foundations of your own human nature. Twenty-five years later, in March 1997, Saunders will recall this evening while making a statement to police, detailing how the teacher betrayed that trust. And in December that year, Saunders will describe his spiral into depression to an eminent clinical psychologist commissioned by the Marist Brothers. John Saunders at his home in Byron Bay. Photo: Heath Missen The psychologist will report that ''it appears Mr Saunders was 'groomed' over time to become the teacher's pet''. The teacher would invite ''favoured students'' to approach his desk and … Continue reading

West Jordan man pleads guilty to falsely advertising, selling Viagra-like drug By Dennis Romboy May 17th, 2013 @ 11:40am SALT LAKE CITY A West Jordan man charged with selling a Viagra-like drug as a natural supplement has pleaded guilty to charges in two separate federal indictments. Kelly Dean Harvey, 50, admitted to conspiring with two others to make and sell male sexual enhancement and erectile dysfunction products under false pretenses. The products were advertised online as "100 percent natural," but tests by the Food and Drug Administration found they contained a chemical imported from China similar to Viagra's active ingredient. Harvey didn't disclose that the products could be dangerous for people with heart conditions, according to the FDA, which issued several warnings to consumers. Harvey pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud and concealment money laundering in connection with the case and agreed to forfeit $512,731. In the second case, Harvey pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to import and importation of ephedrine and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. The Dangers Lurking in Male Sexual Supplements

Posted: Published on May 17th, 2013

Maciej Frolow / Getty Images Rock Hard and similar so-called natural supplements for men often contain potentially dangerous drugs some of which have never been tested on animals, let alone humans. In an editorial published in JAMA Internal Medicine, Pieter Cohen, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a colleague collected some of the lesser known facts about an industry that produces millions of pills and likely generates tens of millions, if not billions of dollars in profits but is almost entirely free of government oversight. Heres what they found: * A product sold as Rock Hard for Men in 2012 turned out to contain not only counterfeit Cialis (tadalafil) but also a diabetes drug that can be deadly if used incorrectly. A similar combination killed more than a dozen men in Asia in 2009. * One Utah company alone produced more than a million pharmaceutically-tainted pills monthly, earning $2 million between 2007 and 2010, according to an indictment issued in one of the few cases brought against such manufacturers. * More than three-quarters of male enhancement supplements tested in one study in Singapore contained pharmaceuticals that were not disclosed and half of them were present in higher … Continue reading

Couple files groundbreaking lawsuit over child’s sexual-reassignment surgery

Posted: Published on May 16th, 2013

A South Carolina couple is suing the state for performing sexual-reassignment surgery on an intersex toddler born with both male and female reproductive organs, calling the procedure irreversible and medically unnecessary. The surgery was performed while the child (now aged eight, and who identifies as male) was in the states care. The lawsuit, filed by the his adoptive parents Mark and Pam Crawfordin partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center, accuses the Department of Social Services and others of performing a dangerous and mutilating surgery to radically restructure [the child's] reproductive organs in order to make his body appear to be female without medical justification. As reported by NBC News affiliate WSFA: The lawsuit states doctors, acting as agents of Defendant hospitals, performed the surgery for the purpose of assigning the child the female gender despite their own conclusion that the toddler was a true hermaphrodite but there was no compelling reason that she should either be made male or female. At birth, the child was identified as a male because of his external genitalia, but shortly after that doctors discovered the baby had ambiguous genitals and both male and female internal reproductive structures, according to the lawsuit. Defendants decided … Continue reading

If Sexual Dysfunction Were a Virus, "It'd Be Pandemic": Expert

After more than 30 years of marriage, Ernie and Cynthia Dillard thought their sex life was over. I never thought that ED (erectile dysfunction) was something I would have to deal with, Ernie Dillard said. I felt like I was not meeting my responsibilities as a husband, as a man. Somethings wrong, youre getting too old; you cant have sex anymore. All the negative things popped up. Cynthia Dillard thought it was her fault. My first reaction was, Its me. I guess Im not sexy enough anymore, and he kept saying no, but he didnt want to talk about it either, Cynthia Dillard said. Their experience is common, according to sexual health expert Dr. Lawrence Paletz of Western Institute for Sexual Health. Fifty percent of all males and females in our population, over the age of 40, have some sort of sexual dysfunction, Paletz said, Its very common. In fact, if this was a virus, it would be pandemic. The problem is when couples dont communicate about it. And at first, Ernie and Cynthia didnt. Its not talked about, Ernie Dillard said. You see all the ads for the pills. Nobody talks about what is going on, how to deal … Continue reading

Columbia couple sues state over toddler’s sexual-reassignment surgery

Posted: Published on May 15th, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC Mark and Pam Crawfords 8-year-old adopted child recently declared that he is a boy asking for a haircut like his fathers and telling his pediatrician that he, indeed, is a boy. It was a change the Columbia couple said they saw coming for their child, who was born with both male and female internal sex organs and ambiguous genitalia. However, when the child was 16 months old and in foster care, surgeons removed the childs penis and testicular tissue in an effort to assign him to the female sex. Now, seven years later, the Crawfords are suing the state Department of Social Services, physicians and state employees who were involved at that surgery, arguing it was medically unnecessary and denied their child who they call only M.C. in lawsuits to protect his privacy the constitutional right to make decisions about his own body. The state took something very special away from our son, and for no reason except for adults inability to deal with people who are born different, said Pam Crawford, who adopted M.C. a few months after his surgery. We hope to put other doctors, hospitals and state agencies on notice that they cannot mutilate children … Continue reading
