Generous donor busts myths about stem cell donation

Posted: Published on March 31st, 2015

GENEROUS: Donor David Bowley with sons James, five, (left) and George, seven,(centre) A POLICE officer who donated his stem cells to help others is urging more potential lifesavers to join the register. David Bowley, from Consett, twice donated stem cells to save the life of a patient in desperate need of a transplant. Donor drive events to take place across Merseyside to help Finn McEwen

Posted: Published on March 24th, 2015

A series of bone marrow registration drives have been planned across Merseyside to help Litherland boy Finn McEwen. Finn, 7, suffers from bone marrow failure and needs a stem cell transplant to save his life. Three events are planned during this week to help as many people as possible to sign up to the register to help find him a match. The first, tomorrow morning, will take place at Liverpool John Moores Universitys School of Art and Designs Art and Design Academy on Duckinfield Street between 10.30am and 2.30pm. On Thursday an event at the 1878 Lounge at Everton Football Club will run from 12 noon until 7pm, and on Friday an event at Finns school, English Martyrs Catholic Primary School in Litherland, will run between 10am and 6pm. Finns mum Carole said that they were looking for the best possible match for Finn so a transplant would have the best chance of success. Finn McEwen (left) and his brother Lucas (right) chat to Everton star James MCarthy (centre) at Finch Farm She said: Hes really happy to get involved with the bone marrow drive events and he understands the importance both for himself and other people.
