The devastated parents of Mirror campaign boy Ben Baddeley will confront NHS chiefs at the centre of the row over his treatment on Tuesday.

Cerebral palsy sufferer Ben, 12, was due to see a NHS specialist about his vital physiotherapy treatment - only for his appointment to be cancelled at the last minute.

North Staffs Clinical Commissioning Group promised parents Amy and Gary he would be assessed.

Then Dr James Palmer, Clinical Director for NHS Services for NHS England, wrote to them to state our local offices were unable to find any contact with you.

Yet the Baddeleys met North Staffs CCG last JUNE - and had been in regular contact for nine months. Cheryl Hardisty, their director of commissioning - who promised to resolve this long standing issue - is set to attend a board meeting on Tuesday at the YMCA in Stoke.

Amy, 32, intends to be there in order to confront her face to face.

She said: We finally received a response from Cheryl but have been passed to a patient services team.

"Even the public are sending in letters on our behalf. We will hold a peaceful protest.

Amy and husband Gary, 40, of Silverdale, Staffs., said they have seen hopes of Government help dashed when they needed it most.

Amy added: We explained that we could not pay for any further treatment. We could not believe it when they said there was no record of any contact.

Mirror readers helped to raise 20,000 to pay for selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) operations cancelled by the NHS due to Tory cuts in February, 2014.

Family, friends, supporters and total strangers gave another 25,000 for physio.

Bens Mirror-backed campaign for cerebral palsy kids has gone all the way to Downing Street.

He was in tears as he delivered a letter to David Cameron when he was still PM.

Prof Vloeberghs, of Nottingham University Hospitals - where Bens operations were carried out privately - also wrote to NHS bosses, telling them: From being a very disabled young boy, he is now an independent walker....able to walk good distances.

Bens physio now costs the Baddeleys 1,400-a-month. North Staffs CCG said: We cannot discuss his case as it would breach patient confidentiality.

"Our priority is to ensure Ben, and every other child, receives a level of NHS care and treatment that is clinically appropriate for their needs.
