Maya Jonas only began running when she was 47 years old.

That was four years ago. Two years ago, she completed her first marathon.

Jonas was also diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, which led to blindness, when she was in her 30s, survived a breast cancer diagnosis in her 40s and was only eight minutes from the finish line at last years Boston Marathon when the bombs went off.

Tonight, as the guest speaker for the 2014 Runners Soul Marathon Club registration night, Jonas will share elements of her inspirational journey. Her speech will begin at 7 p.m. in room PE 250 at the University of Lethbridge.

Running is my absolute passion, so this is going to be a very fun speech for me, Jonas said Sunday after wrapping up a day of skiing at Castle Mountain Resort with the assistance of the Disabled Skiing Association.

Its never too late to be fit. I just started running so I could become healthy and fit. Once I started racing, I really enjoyed it. Its such an adrenaline high.
