Let #39;s see if hypnosis is an effective therapy for losing those extra pounds. There seem to be three distinct groups of people who consider using hypnosis for weight loss. The first groups we could call the "tourists". They are interested in quick gains with no real work - in fact, they #39;d prefer it if someone else were responsible for causing them to get in shape. When pressed, they may not be too serious and they don #39;t really want to change any eating habits or exercise. In many ways, it is magical thinking and they #39;re secretly hoping that somehow they will be hypnotized into a faster metabolism, a greater sense of aversion to eating, or that they will suddenly assume the identity of an avid health nut. In reality... that #39;s probably not going to happen. It does require some additional factors in order for a long-term effect. The second group; let #39;s call them the "no-willpower" group. They really want to succeed but for reasons both mental and emotional that could go as far back as childhood, they just can #39;t seem to do what it takes to drop that weight. On the other hand, growing fatter seemed to happen effortlessly (perhaps more enjoyment-oriented) but that is another story.
