Drop-off sites for unneeded or expired medications will be set up Saturday at five firehouses throughout the Anthony Wayne school district.

Over-the-counter, prescription, or veterinary medications in pills or capsules, and vitamins, will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The event allows people to dispose of these drugs in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

The local drug drop-off is part of a nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day promoted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

Ann Cherry, a Waterville city councilman involved in the event, said people may pour all unneeded medications into locking plastic bags if they dont want to turn in pill bottles with their names on them. Organizers also will destroy the labels.

The Waterville Fire Departments site is drive-through. Other area fire stations with drop-offs include the Monclova, Whitehouse, and Providence Township departments and the Springfield Township station at 7145 Garden Rd.

Syringes, inhalers, and liquid medications, including lotions or ointments, will not be accepted.
