A former soldier who turned to drugs after his experiences in the Gulf War has been jailed for almost seven years.

Daniel Boag, 46, from Dundee was among five people who have been jailed for their roles in a drugs operation which saw amphetamine and cocaine ferried between Glasgow and Dundee.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how a tip-off led to police surveillance then subsequent arrests.

The men admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Boag was jailed for six years and eight months, while Andrew Cox from Broughty Ferry was jailed for five years and nine months.

Grant Carnegie from Dundee and Philip Guthrie, who said he was homeless but has a house in South Queensferry, were both jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Stephen Hutton, from Dundee, was sentenced to three years and nine months.

Advocate depute Andrew Brown QC, prosecuting, told the court that in August last year Tayside Police were informed that Cox was involved in the supply of drugs between Glasgow and Dundee.

The court heard he was the man who paid the bills when Carnegie hired vehicles and drove to Glasgow or Motherwell.
