LAWAS: Sarimah Ismail from Kampung Luagan Lawas, now 50 with Cerebral palsy (CP) since birth, is struggling to get privilege from government welfare as she does not have an identity card to be eligible. But help from Lawas Welfare Department is in the pipeline.

According to her mother Norsi Daim, the endless struggle that Sarimah has been going through life saddens her as she is only able to crawl with difficulty in moving.

Sarimah suffered from high fever during her childhood and frequently experiences epilepsy, with the disorder that has impaired brain and nervous system functions, Norsi added yesterday.

A Cerebral palsy patient experiences disorder in movement (weakened limbs), learning, hearing, seeing and thinking.

Norsi said she had nowhere to seek help to get her daughter an IC, not until recently when Lawas Welfare Department came to know of her plight.

It is vital for her to have the IC as only by having it, she will able to apply for various government assistance, particularly welfare funding, she said.

What is more worrying is that with Norsis health deteriorating, she has difficulty taking care of her disabled daughter who needs her full attention.

Due to Sarimahs physical restriction, it is very difficult to bring her to hospital for frequent treatment, along with the absence of an IC, she stressed.

Norsi, who is currently a welfare recipient of OKU patient Caretaker Welfare Scheme, enables her to receive RM300 monthly.
