When Zou was giving birth in July, 1988, she suffered potentially fatalIntra-uterine asphyxia. Zou insisted in giving birth, even though she was warned of the risks.

Zou who was then a teacher in the citys kindergarten training school had a monthly income of little more than 100 yuan (US$14.50). She worked part-time to shoulder her sons treatment costs.

She worked during day and took her son to see doctor at night, no matter rain or shine. She trained herself into a massage therapist. She would mssage for her son at any given moment. She helped him develop intelligence by playing a paper tearing game during lunch breaks.

Zou began to teach her son to read every day when he turned one. Her son had learned to read more than 100 Chinese characters when he was just under two.

Zous son graduated in Environmental Science and Engineering College from the Peking University in 2011 and continued his studies at the universitys School of Transnational Law.
