A central Indiana school district is considering changing how it handles student medications, including limiting the amount allowed per student and requiring parents to bring medications in themselves instead of sending them with students.

The Greenfield-Central School Board will consider the proposed policy at its meeting Monday.

The Daily Reporter says the proposal stems from an investigation into missing medications at J.B. Stephens Elementary School.

A parent told police that her first-grader was missing pills used to treat his attention-deficit disorder.

The school didn't report the incident to police immediately while it conducted an internal audit.

A school health assistant was fired, but no one was charged. Superintendent Dr. Linda Gellert says the school board also will consider installing security cameras where medications are kept.
