FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Cable billionaire John Malone and his wife Leslie are giving $42.5 million to Colorado State University to develop stem cell treatments for animals and people, the biggest donation in the schools history.

The university announced Monday that $32.5 million would pay for the construction of the CSU Institute for Biologic Translational Therapies and $10 million would cover operating costs. The gift requires that another $32.5 million in matching donations be raised for the building.

The institute will work to develop next-generation remedies, including stem cell treatments, to treat joint diseases and other problems in both animals and people.

The Malones say their gift was partially inspired by the stem cell treatments their dressage (dreh-SAHZH) horses have received at the universitys veterinary hospital.
