THE memory of tragic toddler Margot Martini will be honoured by county council staff to help others looking for blood stem cell donors.

Worcestershire County Council will be teaming up with Delete Blood Cancer UK to hold a special registration event for staff on Wednesday, March 24 to find potential blood stem cell donors.

The day will be in honour of Margot Martini who was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of dual lineage leukaemia aged 14 months in October 2013.

A bone marrow transplant from an anonymous person in February 2014, who had registered as a blood stem cell donor, provided Margot a chance of beating her blood cancer, and gave her extra time with her family and loved ones.

Sadly, Margot lost her battle in October 2014.

Following Margot's diagnosis, her family and friends set up Team Margot to raise awareness of Margot's plight and that of others needing a stem cell donor.

Marcus Hart, cabinet member for Health and Well Being said: "It is extremely sad Margot Martini lost her life so young.

"The donors kind, benevolent act provided her best chance for beating blood cancer and gave her precious time with her family.

"Someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer in the UK every 20 minutes, thats around 30,000 people every year.

"By teaming up with Delete Blood Cancer UK, and getting as many staff as possible to register for a simple cheek swab, we are helping Team Margot and Delete Blood Cancer UK to save a life."
