Newman Regional Health has welcomed a new cardiology team, which began work at the hospital on Monday.

Dr. Pat Crawley and Dr. Mike Lloydm along with their practitioners Krista Ohmie, Physician Assistant, and Mary Warden, Nurse Practitioner, are already seeing patients at the hospital and clinic.

The quartet may be new to Newman Regional Health, but it is quite accustomed to working as a team. All four were previously employed at Cardiovascular Consultants of Kansas and have worked together for years.

They made me an offer and I said, my mid-level (Warden) comes with me, Crawley said. We all work well together.

The four of us all work really well together, Ohmie said. We help each other out, work hard and have fun at the same time.

All four providers believe strongly in patient-focused care and providing time for their patients. In addition to their extensive medical training and award-winning cardiological care, all four also possess impressive bedside manner with a focus on humor.

They are going to get more dedicated time, Crawley said. We are very down to earth and we dont doctor speak. We give them as much time as they need.

I think we will bring a new dynamic to the Emporia area, Warden said. Patients seem to flock to our practice because there is such good communication and camaraderie. We have many patients following us from our practice in Wichita.

I had a lady the other day say, this is the most fun Ive had at a doctors visit, Crawley said.

Continuity of care is a given for patients since the four work together in approaching all cases.

The thing that is different between us and most groups is, I work specifically with her (Crawley) but if Im out (Ohmie), can pick up where I left off and vice-versa, Warden said. That is how we work. You will never lose the standard of care just because someone is out.

Patients can receive almost any necessary cardiology treatment at Newman Regional Health.

Angioplasty, pacemakers, stints, defibrillators, Lloyd said. You can get every cardiology service there is except bypass surgery and electrophysiology.

Treating heart conditions timely saves lives and, with the addition of the cath lab and cardiology team at Newman Regional Health, patients will benefit from not having to travel to hospitals out of town.

What we focus on is called door-to-balloon time, Lloyd said. We want to be less than 90 minutes. We say time is muscle.

The new team has lofty goals for Emporia and plans to provide top-notch patient care.

The hospital Pat and I were previously affiliated with was one of two five-star hospitals in Kansas and we want to bring that quality here, Lloyd said. And we can. Thats where we lived before and we can again.

We are hoping to inspire the knowledge base of medical patients because we believe we can do it and build this into a five-star hospital that people want to come to, Crawley said.

To schedule an appointment with a member of the cardiology team call 342-4278.
