A relatively new drug recently made its way to the City of Leduc, a drug which has side effects similar to that of LSD, according to Leduc RCMP.

Called "2CI" or "2CI nbome,"the drug is a fluid substance that is put on a piece of paper. According to police, the paper can be any colour and the drug itself is colourless. The paper is then putinside of the user's mouth for its desired effect.

Const. Tim Gaultois, media liaison with the Leduc RCMP, said the drug causes users to hallucinate and we know of two instances of where people were said to have beenhospitalized as a result of taking it.

A chemical base, the drug takes about 45-75 minutes to take effect and can have lasting effects of up to five to eight hours when taken orally, according to erowid.org. The same site also lists out of control thinking, paranoia, fear and panic as just some of the major side effects of the drug.

Leduc RCMP first learned of its existence after they received a complaint of youth believed to have consumed the drug.

The drug also surfaced in the Town of Beaumont and Stony Plain, said police. Upon further investigation, police determined there were two individuals selling the drug in the Leduc County area but police were able to find 36 out of the 40 pieces of the drug.

I am proud of the officers working so quick, said Insp. Wally Lynds of the Leduc RCMP detachment, specifically of the Leduc and Beaumont RCMP officers who worked hard to secure the drug which he says has an alarming effect.
