NFL submitted proposal for immediate HGH testing, according to report

After years of skirting the issue, the NFL is trying to get very tough on HGH, very fast.

In the current culture of sports, performance-enhancing drugs are a part of the everyday conversation. This is something the NFL is trying to curtail now, with the news that it wants HGH testing for the 2013 season after submitting a proposal in late April, according to NFL.com.

Other substances are already banned by the NFL, including different types of steroids that carry an automatic four-game suspension. However, HGH isn't on the list.

The problem is that it's hard to figure who is guilty of taking HGH because there isn't a baseline established. It's unclear what levels an adult man should have in his body and just how HGH affects a human, something the World Anti-Doping Agency is working on.

In the meantime, the NFL wants to take blood and urine samples from the players and store them until a baseline is created. The NFL Players Association would rather the baseline be set before samples are taken, thus causing the stalemate.
