Fellowship-trained and board-certified Neurologist and Epileptologist Najib Murr, M.D., FAAN, has joined North Oaks Neurology Clinic in Hammond. He also is skilled in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of a wide variety of disorders that affect the nervous system, including headaches, stroke, movement disorders and tremors, Parkinsons disease, Alzheimers disease and multiple sclerosis.

Highly regarded in research and education relevant to epilepsy, Murr is fluent in English, French and Arabic and has served on the editorial boards and as a reviewer for multiple peer review journals, including Neurology and Neuroscience Journal and Neurology, Neuroscience Research Journal and International Neuropsychiatric Disease Journal. Since 2016, he has been editor in chief of the Neurology/Epilepsy section of StatPearls Publishing, the largest library of medical education in the world. A sought-after subject matter expert and presenter, Murr was notably an organizing committee member and speaker at the second International Conference on Neurology and Brain Disorders held in Rome in 2018.

He belongs to the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, Association of University Professors of Neurology, Consortium of Neurology Program Directors and the Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Sections of the American Academy of Neurology. He served as the American Academy of Neurology representative for the Epilepsy Foundations National Epilepsy and Awareness Collaborative Community of Practice Steering Committee from 2017-2019.

Murr earned a medical degree from the Lebanese University School of Medicine in Beirut. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine through Kansas University School of Medicine in Wichita and a residency in Neurology through the University of Nebraska Medical Center-Creighton University in Omaha. He served as chief resident in his final year and was honored as Resident of the Year. Murr completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy through Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

I am specifically drawn to the epilepsy field because it combines three things that I find very intriguing our bodys nervous system, physics and technology, Dr. Murr said.

Acadian Ambulance Paramedic Alex Lopez and EMT John Moseleyk, New Orleans natives who represent the companys Northshore service area, were recent finalists for company's top honors for medics. Nominated by their peers and chosen by a companywide committee, they display exemplary attitudes and provide excellent patient care.

Lopez joined Acadian in 2007 and is stationed out of Covington. A field training officer, earned his CCT paramedic certification in 2009, has two Meritorious Service Awards and has received numerous compliments for professionalism and clinical knowledge.

Moseley, who joined Acadian in 2018, is stationed out of Slidell. He plans to become a field training officer and is attending National EMS Academy to earn his paramedic certification. He holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts.

Avala announces it has exceeded 2,000 robotic-assisted surgeries in under four years of introducing this surgical technology to the region.

In 2018, Avala purchased three surgical robots two Stryker Mako robots for total hip, total knee, and partial knee procedures, and one Globus Excelsius GPS robot for spine procedures.

In 2020, the hospital added a third Stryker Mako robot to its collection of innovative technology, said Medical Director Samer Shamieh, M.D.

Avala officials also recently announced the newest partnership with Accelerated Hand Solutions, an occupational hand therapy clinic in Covington.

Brashier Angus Farm, Loranger, is a new member of the American Angus Associationm said Mark McCully, CEO of the national breed organization headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
