Toronto World Parkinson's Program Gala [ CANADA ] - April 6, 2018

The Annual Gala of World Parkinson's Program was held on April 6 at the Crystal Fountain Banquet Hal in Markham, Ontario, Canada.More than 500 guests including various Canadian federal, provincial and local politicians, people with Parkinson's, caregivers, physicians, healthcare professionals and members of Parkinson's community attended this Gala.

Rasheda Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali, the boxing legend, and John Baumann, a US attorney who is a motivational speaker were guest speakers of this event. Dr. Rana, founder of World Parkinson's Parkinson's Program also gave a lecture on increasing number of Parkinson's patients globally and lack of resources to help increasing number of Parkinson's patients. Representatives of media and other partner organizations were also present. Mr. Armand Gilks, Shaheer Aziz, Nadeem Hussain, Shelly Sedighi and other board members emphasized on the importance of providing free medications to Parkinson's patients who are not able to afford buying medications.They also provided educational information about Parkinson's disease in multiple languages to participants.

Mr. Shabbir Razakazee, the executive director of World Parkinson's Program highlighted how unique are services of World Parkinson's Program. He also mentioned that World Parkinson's Program is much different in its mandate than other Parkinson's organizations. World Parkinson's Program is the only Parkinson's organization which provides free medications,walking aids and educational literature about Parkinson's disease in more than 20 languages to neediest Parkinson's communities globally. The seminar was well perceived by Brampton Community.

World Parkinsons Program held a Parkinsons seminar in Brampton, Ontario on February 25 with a Q& A session to raise awareness of Parkinsons disease. A large number of caregivers to Parkinsons patients, healthcare professionals, Parkinsons patients and members of general public attended the seminar. The seminar was held at the Richard-Gibson Community Center in Brampton, Ontario. MP Ruby Sahota, MPP Jagmeet Singh, Canadian Actress Ordena Stephen-Thompson attended the seminar. Dr.Rana, a renowned Parkinsons expert delivered a lecture on Parkinsons disease and its complications. He spent a significant amount of time answering questions of participants about Parkinsons disease. Ordena Stephen-Thompson who is also a carpenter to Parkinsons patients shared with people her experiences in taking care of Parkinsons disease. Mr. Nadeem Hussain, the president of World Parkinsons Program gave a welcome speech highlighting why education about Parkinsons disease is necessary. MP Ruby Sahota also spoke on how important is to educate the members of various communities in Canada about a disease like Parkinsons, the number of which double by 2031. Mr. Razakazee, the executive director of World Parkinsons Program discussed how World Parkinsons Program is different than other Parkinsons organizations which are focussed mainly on research. World Parkinsons Program aims on providing daily treatment related necessities to Parkinsons patients around the world. He said indeed, World Parkinsons Program is the only organization which provides medications, walking aids and educational literature in more than 20 languages.

World Parkinsons Program held a memorial seminar in Toronto to pay tribute to Muhammad Ali, the world renowned boxer and the most famous Parkinsons patient. This event was held on Saturday, November 5 from 1:30 3:30 PM at the Bendale Library hall, located at 1515 Danforth Road, in Scarborough, Toronto. John Baumann, a motivational speaker from Florida gave motivational message via web link in this event. A large number of Parkinsons patients, caregivers and other members of Parkinsons and healthcare community attended this event. This seminar not only helped to raise awareness about Parkinsons disease, but also provided motivation to Parkinsons patients to fight the disease with the same courage as Muhammad Ali. Dr.Rana, a renowned Parkinsons expert delivered a lecture on Parkinsons disease and its complications in particular constipation. He also answered questions of participants about Parkinsons disease in Q & A session. Various caregivers shared with people their experiences in taking care of Parkinsons disease. Mr. Armand Gilks, the chair of World Parkinsons Program gave a welcome speech to participants. He also spoke how important is to educate Canadians about Parkinsons. World Parkinson's Program's held a very successful event of Parkinsons GALA DINNER on Friday, April 29, at the Estate Banquet Hall, in Toronto, This event was attended by more than 300 people including patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. John Baumann, a motivational speaker from Florida delivered an inspiring speech to participants and emphasized how keeping a positive attitude, exercise and complying with treatment can help in managing Parkinsons disease. Dr.A.T.Ghouse associate Professor from McMaster University, Hamilton gave a lecture on various symptoms of Parkinsons disease and treatment strategies. Shaun Chen, Toronto MP applauded efforts of World Parkinsons Program in enhancing education, delivering treatment and literature in many languages to people around the world. Mr.Shabbir Razakazee, the executive director of World Parkinsons Program said World Parkinsons Program is reflective of true spirit of Canadians who care about other humans suffering with this illness around the world. The Gala Dinner was a very successful event in bringing Parkinsons community together.
