PRINCE Andrew couldn't sweat in the 1990s because of hair loss treatment, a former aide has claimed.

The Duke of York had denied Virginia Roberts' claims he was "profusely sweating" while dancing with her at Tramp nightclub in 2001.

In his "car crash" BBC interview, he instead bizarrely said her claims couldn't be true as he had developed a medical condition, anhidrosis, while serving as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War which meant he couldn't sweat.

But a former aide today said that it was actually hair loss treatment the duke was undergoing that prevented him from sweating.

They told the Daily Mail: "We often went to Annabel's nightclub and even after ferocious dancing, he hardly ever perspired."

Despite the aide's claims, Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director at Patient.info, told The Sun Online there were a limited number of medications that could stop sweating.

She said: "There is a long list of drugs that can cause anhidrosis, an inability to sweat. These include treatments used to manage the side effects of medication for severe mental illness, along with treatments for epilepsy, high blood pressure, glaucoma, osteoporosis and mountain sickness.

"But on the whole very few people taking these drugs develop anhidrosis.

"There are only a couple of medications licensed in the UK for managing male pattern hair loss: one is a tablet and one is a topical lotion.

"Neither of them have anhidrosis as a side effect, to my knowledge."

And Dr Hilary Jones added: "I cannot think of any reason whatsoever why treatment for hair loss, whether it involved medications or transplants, would interfere with the normal ability to sweat."

It comes as the 59-year-old was stripped of royal duties yesterdayamid anger over his links to billionaire paedo Jeffrey Epstein.

He has also pledged to co-operate with authorities investigating Epstein, opening him up to serious criminal risk.

It came after the disastrous interview with Newsnight that saw him tell journalist Emily Maitlis:"I didn't sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War, when I was shot at... it was almost impossible for me to sweat."

Ms Roberts has claimed she met Andrew at the Tramp nightclub before the Prince's friendJeffrey Epsteinmade her sleep with him.

Andrew then claimed he remembered the day in question well because he had taken Princess Beatrice to Pizza Express in Woking, and had been at home with his daughters while ex-wife Sarah was away.

Andrew was infamously photographed with his arm around Ms Roberts at Ghislaine Maxwell's home in London in 2001.

The Duke repeatedly said during his BBC interview that he had "no recollection" of the photo being taken - and appeared to suggest it could have been faked.

Asked about claims he had sex with Ms Roberts, he told Maitlis: "I can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened."

Ms Roberts has claimed she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times between 1999 and 2002 - in London, New York and on Epstein's private Caribbean island.

Epstein was found hanged in his prison cell in August while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

One of Britains leading doctors and skin specialists,Dr Rekha Tailor, of Health & Aesthetics says:

"Anhidrosis is a medical syndrome which is characterised by the inability to sweat normally, or the absence of sweating. People with Anhidrosis find that their skin sweats very little, or not at all.

Its thought to be caused by a number of reasons including any of the following:

If the condition only affects a small area of the body its not usually dangerous, butifit affects a large portion of the body it prevents proper cooling, which in turn means that vigorous exercise, hard physical work and hot weather can cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion or even heatstroke.

Anhidrosis can develop on its own or as one of several signs and symptoms of another condition such as diabetes or skin injury.

No one knows exactly how many people are affected by this condition.

People who only have the condition over a small part of their body may not need treatment. But in more severe cases there are medications available.

If the cause is unknown, treatment options are more limited. If you are concerned that you may be suffering with the condition you should always seek medical advice from your doctor."
