Psychiatrists' prescriptions do more harm than good (Letter to the Editor)

According to your online article of December 29, 2012, DAVIS VS. ALTAPOINTE, Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis, accuses AltaPointe Health Systems of inadequately monitoring the mentally ill.

The problem goes much deeper than that. The whole profession of psychiatry is a sham.

The drugs they prescribe cause the very symptoms for which they are prescribed. Every mass murderer of the last two decades had been on or had just come off of psychotropic drugs.

A notice on antidepressant drugs warns that young people may want to kill themselves when first taking these FDA-approved "medications," and according to medical journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner, Robert Whitaker, there is a shocking risk of increased violence to others.

The website SSRIstories.com has compiled a jaw-dropping list of school shootings, spree killings, murder attempts, and other violent actions, together with the particular antidepressant medication the perpetrator was using (or had just withdrawn from).

Additionally, I have read that there is no credible scientific lab test that proves this "chemical imbalance" for which they are purportedly prescribing those drugs.

I believe the use of such drugs are an ill-conceived scam originating with the drug industry. Psychiatrists should be addressing cause not treating symptoms.

With Fluoride in the water, a food supply loaded with toxins, and a national craving for sugars, etc., there is a price to pay, physically and mentally. Not only are we having an overload of toxins but we are experiencing huge deficiencies of essential nutrients. In our obsession to avoid saturated fats we rob our brain of essential, high quality omega-3 fats.

Eating real foods, addressing deficiencies with supplements and chelating toxins from our bodies would be a safer, saner way to address illness.

A broken body can be easier to fix than a broken mind but prescribing drugs, rather than addressing cause, brings serious problems of their own.
